My Magic Crisco Candle Recipe

I will show you how to make a candle using Crisco shortening !
This candle is super easy to make, and will provide you with countless hours of light.
It burns smoke free, and is a fun project to make with your children.
-You will need the following:
► Crisco vegetable shortening
► COTTON string
► Glass container
► Metal nut

Tips: melt the Crisco or shortening in a pot on the stove at low heat ... add food coloring ... add seasonings or scented oils. If using cotton butchers cord as a wick then soak it in melted oil first. Then hot glue the wick to the bottom of a canning jar, pour in the melted shortening concoction you have made, center the wick, and place in the fridge to solidify. Wham bam you have a candle.

While it's in it's liquid state add your favorite essential oil.

This was directly to the point on the direction of how to make candles with shorting......i hate all the bs talk before the actual directions!.....if this is what all your others do, then youve got a definite subscriber!!!! THANKS!!!

I used cotton wick “thread”, & oil lamp wicks in flat & also round type. Boiled them in salt/borax, dried for a week, coated in bee’s wax so these things should be really good but they still smoke no matter how short I trim them. Arrrgh …. What’s wrong???

Large Crisco container with a wax candle stuck in for wick will last over 2 mths...😱

I like to add a couple to a few of those wax melts for coloring and fragrances. I get the cheap 10 packs at the dollar store for $2 and usually use 2 per candle.

I tried this idea but I went to a dollar zone bought 10 pack 3 inch candles I put candle in jar filled with shortening unmelted packed it in and lit, it produce more heat then a candle

To better help the wick be centered I just insert a wax candle cut down to fit the jar after the crisco has solidified. Burns better

You can also melt crayons in it for color

I think (I have never tried this) that one could toss in a little bacon grease (I save mine in cans in the freezer) to give a little appetizing aroma to the candle. I did that once to a wax candle and it made me hungry all night, ha ha.

I have seen this done with cheap candles as the wick. In small jars such as this one shown, they use birthday candles once the Crisco has begun to cool off and get more firm... just place a birthday candle in the center and then place in a fridge or freezer to solidify the Crisco around it.

Great video! I was just wondering what to do with some old Crisco oil that I had for way too long. I also like the idea of the nut to hold down the cotton string. Thanks for the ideas :-)
