Or Accredited Gemologist? More likely!

@@Flickit100 Thank you very much for your encouragement and kind words. Yes, A.G. is Accredited Gemologist (AIGS) its a comparable title to GIA's G.G. (graduate gemologist) or Gem-A's FGA (fellowship of the gemmological association). Each program has its own bent and advantages, but i'll say that a student that applies themselves in any of these programs will come out on the other side with a similarly competitive knowledge. Trade active teachers and a glorious gemstone collection are what drew me to AIGS, that and its centered right above one of the most active coloured stone markets in the world here in Bangkok's Jewelry Trade Center. Cheers Graham

That's a great insight into magic numbers! I was only focusing on the magic numbers related to a certain product made famous by 120 years of excellent marketing!! But now I have a new angle to help customers decide on a stone! Thanks a ton, Peter!! (Website is looking good but may I say it is a little too basic (in looks, not information)? Are you planning to just keep it as a side project or develop it into something bigger?)

Thanks again for your kind words Nikhil. As to the website - it is definitely a work in progress. It will adapt over time as I figure out what I want and how to do it through heaps of tutorials XD . Step by step eh?

When you buy let's say a 3 CT ruby would you rather buy a perfect aaa heated one or a not so clear, little smaller unheated one? (for aprox. Same price). What's better investment? Thank you
@GemologyforSchmucks
@GemologyforSchmucks 3 жыл бұрын
An excellent question, and the short answer is: it depends on the two stones. Thats a lame answer, so let me break it down some more. 3 cts is a magic number, so even two otherwise identical stones (if you can find em...) stand to have a pretty substantial price difference. Finding 'quality' rubies above 3cts is not easy, because they're simply just rare. So when you say the unheated piece is "a little smaller" are we talking 2.95 or 2.30cts? 2.95 is close enough, 2.30 is pretty wide of the mark for carat to be comparable. If the unheated piece is "not so clear" does that mean it is foggy, or really cracked, or... what kind of issues does the clarity have? Fundamentally though, colour is the first most important thing to keep in mind here. If the colour isnt the same then we really cannot compare these two stones with the same measurements. Whichever of the two is closer to a "true" red without a clear modifying purple or orange colour is going to start in a higher price bracket, and then everything else magnifies the value. All that is to say, if the heated stone (traditional heat that is. Not glass filled, or heavily borax treated etc etc.) has the better colour, better clarity AND is over 3 carats, then there is every chance that it could be sold at a higher rate than the unheated stone. I'd have to see the stones in person in the right lighting to say much more than this. Thanks for the question, and hope this helps~

In the Netherlands we had edelstenen en half edelstenen. First grade and second grade gems. Why and when they change it to make no difference between them. ( for me it always stays diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald. And then ofcourse real natural pearls) The rest can be nice but i just have preferences. (Ametist is the one i mostly dislike hehe)

We all like what we like eh? The thing I find interesting is how people's tastes change as they see more and more material. Many people start with diamonds and get bored with them, switching over to collecting elusive coloured stones.

Is a heated 2ct padparadcher worth buying
@GemologyforSchmucks

If it is a beautiful stone, then why not? Traditional heat treatment is stable and accepted, as long as the treatment is disclosed.
