I really like this idea. I collect a little bit of magic and DB super, but i collect alot of pokemon and ive always wondered about what is really worth more. Obviously old magic is worth more, but as far as modern goes, i feel like it could go either way.

Now, two years later, the magic cards (including those he pulled but didn't count, like the veil of summer, destiny spinner, and lands) are sitting at about $17 of value and the Pokemon cards are at about $5. One of the main issues with Pokemon is that a large portion of the value is stored in the collectability of the cards rather than their strength in-game. I can't remember a time where an uncommon pokemon card was worth more than a dollar, yet magic consistently prints value in the lower rarities, which I'd argue makes it more stable and future-proof.

Hey Andy, most of the people seem to enjoy this concept of comparing poke and mtg but since I couldn’t care less about Pokémon I like the pure poke or pure mtg videos better. ;-) that is of course just my opinion.

a lot of pokemon cards don't retain value like magic does. Uncommons you pulled in the MTG packs are worth more today than everything in those pokemon packs.

Pokemon seems to have a higher single price value than Mtg when the sets come out but as soon as pokemon cards rotate out of standard they tank in price whereas many magic cards maintain their value.

I open both pokemon and mtg. I think mtg has significantly more value on average than pokemon (modern sets). Pokemon has a few "chase" cards but everything else is about bulk. Mtg has a lot more mid-tier hits on average

Pokémon is a lot easier to get into, and I think is better in the long run

Newer sets of pokemon tcg are worth more up front in the newer sets, but mtg card value grows with time. So if you were to do the older sets of both mtg and pokemon tcg (i.e. for example, Alpha vs. Base Set), mtg would win hands down nearly every time. A pack of Alpha is worth more alone by itself (i.e. couple hundred grand) which is due to the fact and possibility of a Black Lotus being in the pack. Because older cards in pokemon tcg are not as sought after and doesn't have a reserved list. Whereas, the older cards in mtg are more sought after for both Legacy and Vintage formats, especially if the cards are from sets before 8th edition because of the reserved list. The reserved list of cards can never be reprinted which drives their prices up because of demand. Long story short: If you want a little money now and up front with sets of these two tcg's, you have to go with the newer sets of pokemon tcg and with the older sets of mtg. MTG in the older sets will have the bigger payout overall if you can hit the infamous Black Lotus (i.e. $100,000 easy money, if you can get it, which is nearly unheard of because only 1,100 cards total, not card types or named cards, total overall, were ever printed in Alpha during its print run in the year of 1993), Moxes, and Dual Lands from either Alpha, Beta, or Revised sets.

Magics uncommons can be worth some money compared to Pokemon

for collecting purposes, please don't drag the front card over the next one, it ruins the surface grade ur gonna get(or not at all)

So if you want to do this experiment corectly you will need way more boosters in order to create right population to have results that matter something. I'd say 50-100 boosters for each would be enough XD.
