I had a question, as yesterday I had shared one of Annette Host's videos on seidr, shamanism in a Norse Mythology group on facebook and you would not believe the "gate keepers" who blasted me for sharing that. Calling it cultural appropriation "stealing" by people who don't belong to the Sami tribe etc. I did more research into the words "cultural appropriation" and it only seems to apply if what is used or shared from a particular culture is done so in an ill manner, to exploit or profit from the knowledge or information. But what if you have permission from the elders to share? I know the Lakota Native American elders said they will go to war over cultural appropriation, if anyone takes the words of their elders or wise ones and use it in other pagan practices and claim it as their own. I can understand that for if they claim it as their own then it is stealing. I have seen many eclectic wiccan groups and authors do this. I also understand the need for secrecy and loyalty, as I studied under a Welsh Gwyddon who refused to work with anyone who didn't speak Welsh or wasn't from Wales unless they understood not to share with outsiders or people who would exploit the shared information. Have you ever experienced any back lash from this?
