Magician reacts to Florian Sainvet 2021 performing his FISM act Robot Dream involving incredible stage manipulation for Penn and Teller on their show Penn & Teller Fool Us 2021. Florian Sainvet is a French magician, and his act has lots of WOW, in your face, sleight of hand magic. Additionally, his creative design is palpable in this amazing performance. Simply a must-see act. Can Florian Sainvet, a FISM winner, win fool us and be a fooler winner / Fool Us Winner? This video shows the reaction of someone familiar with magic so you can see how someone in this field feels about the performance! This is the Fool Us Season 7 extension 2021. Also included is a magician interview with Florian himself at the end of this video!

--- Camera / Recording Equipment ---
** I personally use these items below for filming my videos!
📷 My Main Camera (fast autofocus): amzn.to/2MwhPEA
🎥 Lens for "talking to the camera" (great bokeh): amzn.to/2MtgAWQ
💡 Powerful Light (helps video quality): amzn.to/2QOTFcw
👍 Soft Box (for that nice soft light on your face): amzn.to/2NriW99
🎙 Microphone with arm: amzn.to/33xgV3x
Extra equipment
🔵 Tripod for camera: amzn.to/2U1O8Ri
🔵 Light Stand: amzn.to/3aawnoM
This light stand is kinda not sturdy enough because the light and soft box are so large; the whole thing can tip over easily. But it's what I use! 😆 Or you can perhaps find another light stand that is rated to hold more weight. Or just put something heavy (like sandbags) onto the bottom to lower the center of gravity.

At 5:08 you can see him put his left hand thumb through a loop hole on his chest and pulls a black square off his costume and as he is misdirecting with the green square in his right hand, the black square in his left is attached to his hand the whole time before he flips it around for the reveal. He executed it really well, just wild to me that it's done so blatantly in full view and anyone who doesn't know the sleight of hand/misdirection concepts wouldn't see it. That's the one spot where you could maybe say he had an obvious flash but i think it's just because i just happened to glance over at his other hand at the right moment. So much of what he's doing in this act is happening right in front of the audience's eyes with nearly no cover. It's ballsy and really well executed.

It is hard to explain this properly. Florian is so quick and so flawless that I almost am more confused than amazed. It is a weird feeling, he is so amazing at what he does and he does it so well. Maybe it is just me but it feels so unreal that I am not as excited as I would be with other acts. And I am a lay person, so maybe this FISM/Fool us act would work better for its target audience - magicians. Don't get me wrong... I love it and I am amazed but its just a feeling I have watching it

Not sure I've ever finished a book, but the one that has had the most impact would have to be the Bible. I get questioned on it all the time whether the questions be good or bad. Even this comment will be met with content and disgust even if no replies are given. Just like Aesop's fables, the Bible is full of short stories that a meaning can be derived from; a lesson to apply to one's life. I'm sure I'll be questioned by both sides on my comparison of the two books. I got smacked by a phonebook one time, too. Pretty good impact. Great interview and interpretation of the story. BTW, it's okay to say 'coq' in front of Florian. It's French for 'rooster'. ;)

Biggest impact book . . . well, I have an undergraduate degree in religion and two graduate degrees in theology, so the Bible pretty much has been my whole professional life! Truly enjoyed the performance. I didn't think it was a fooler, but it wasn't a mere trick, either. I saw a few flashes (pun intended), and for the most part, manipulation . . . well, you understand the basic concept or your don't. Since there weren't any strong proofs as to why he couldn't be following more or less standard methods, then I don't see why Penn and Teller would give it to him. But from a production standpoint? Definitely one of the best I've seen on the show.

About the book question, I once saw a documentary BASED on a book and later got my hands on a copy of it as well. That was "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne, and it talks about the law of attraction, how our thoughts attract and manifest what we think into our lifes and how pretty much everything we have up into this point of our lives, everything major that is, we attracted it by thinking it, believing it and acting towards it! That is The Secret, the law of attraction!!! Also the "4-Hour Workweek" cause I am lazy and the title had me instantly...

The problem with the act was that it was so visually busy and with no verbal story that you didn’t really know what you were supposed to be looking at. Add in the puffy jacket with all the lights and I wasn’t sure when I saw a ‘trick’ whether I was supposed to be seeing a sleight or some mechanical/electronic effect.

Nah... Fairly obvious what's doing on most of the time... Sleeves on the jacket are very bulky in the forearms, clearly see some bracing under his pants when we does the levitation, backpack on the back of his jacket etc... Same old tricks, jazzed up with a light up suit. Obviously still crazy good skills, but I don't think it would fool them.

I really enjoyed the act as a art form. And it gives many options and ideas. So let me list some ideas here as inspiration. The stepping in the air looked a bit too much like a pole dancer act, which makes people understand the trick. Even Penn and Teller. I would combine the floating act with "stars" falling from the sky. And one of them would include a cable to attach to the costume. After attaching the cable (with help of magnet) in the side-way state, you can suddenly really float into the air, unexpectedly. As additional scene: the machine breaks and you fall down in a puff of smoke (or fire?).. You can even dive into the platform hidden behind a mirror (unseen by the smoke).. And reappear after you get reconstructed from parts (from the ground up) and the mirror is moved aside (like 2 doors) with the fake parts. The breast plate did not look important to me in the story, and I would just add some more blinking lights to it to make it look more important. Like a heart-beat from where the other magic arrives through the arms. The disks could be brighter, maybe with reflecting green coating that reacts to ultraviolet lights (black-light) from above. And personally I would change the story more like a person imprisoned by the borg (or robots, or computer-game). And the story becomes about escaping the prison, while discovering the new magical powers.

Cool effects. Love the springy black suit too. As for the not fooling, the judges know exactly how the act is performed in all stages. They take the code speak from Penn and see if what he says applies. As Penn mentioned, manipulation and production magic is probably never going to win on Fool Us. There is only so many ways it can be done no matter cool the effects and how gifted the person is at doing them. The show was magical, and I love watching production and manipulation magic. Some of the best magical looking effects come from those acts. Unfortunately, the mechanics behind those acts are all well known.

Best book for me is The Mountain Wakes by E.J. Wilson because it was a pure fun adventure About cave people who live on and near a mountain and the ground starts shaking, the rocks are heating up, and smoke is coming out. You and I know that is a volcano, but these are cave people. They can’t go online and Google for it. One man has to be the Einstein. Has to figure out what’s going on, what to do about it, and then how to convince the people to go along with the program. Plus there are two giant reveals at the end and an element of science fiction That blew my mind.

I'm going to cheat and mention multiple books as well. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, specifically the third book in the series, it reignited my love of reading when I was in high school, I got a copy of LUE in the free bin at a book store and it turns out it's a first edition hardback. I treasure that book. And secondly The Sundered by Ruthanne Reid, for reigniting my love of reading as an adult. I prefer some of her newer books like The Christmas Dragon and Half-Shell Prophecies over the first of her's that I read, but the first one got me reading again.

Stop calling it a mini interview. A mini interview is two-three questions. Like those man-in-the-street-opinion things. The time most interviewer (are allowed) to spends on an interview on screen is 3 minutes. Tops. You always have a great interview about the trick and what's behind it. You take over ten minutes. This counts as an in-depth interview. Even using the Asop fable is a good interview tool. Love it !

My all time favourite book is sci-fi "The Destruction of Faena" by Alexander Kazantsev. For me, it explains how might human life on Earth began.

I really enjoy Harry Harrison's "Stainless Steel Rat" series. Fantastic sci-fi, but with a philosophical bent on the difference between active "criminal disobedience" vs. the sanctity of life.
