Magicshine has recently expanded their Seemee taillights to include a number of exciting new lights that pack some impressive features. In this review, we’ll be looking specifically at the Magicshine Seemee 200 which is the current flagship with the highest lumen output and number of design features. The Seemee 200 is well priced at $44.99 for the features, and also boasts a maximum of 200 lumens of output. With this latest generation of tail lights, Magicshine has incorporated both an ambient light sensor as well as a brake sensor. These two sensors allow the taillight to automatically adjust the output based on the current conditions as well activate a boosted output mode during deceleration to attract attention.
The Magicshine Seemee 200 has a unique square profile that differentiates it from the other Seemee tail lights. On the face of the tail light you’ll find the primary LED with a dimpled lens cover that is surrounded by a transparent optical fiber ring and multiple smaller LEDs. The primary LED provides a majority of the output, while the ring provides a uniform glow. You’ll find the Magicshine logo below these two lighting elements on the slightly beveled lower portion. The sides are simply smooth, and parallel with the lens which initially had us worried about side visibility. However, a portion of the housing of the Seemee 200 is transparent and becomes illuminated when the light is on allowing the tail light to be seen from side angles.
The Seemee 200 comes with two mounts out of the box: a seat post mount and a saddle rail mount. While the seatpost mount has the same design as most mounts, a plastic mount with flexible rubber strap, Magicshine has added a clever design detail. The portion of the seat post that sits against the seat post has a rounded profile for standard seat tubes as well as a second rounded cutout. This second cutout allows the seatpost mount to also work on aero seat posts that have sharper trailing edges which would cause typical seat posts mounts to not sit flush. With a simple second cutout, Magicshine has created an easy to use seatpost mount that should work with nearly any seatpost...

Does the light work/turn on while charging/plugged in? I'm thinking of having the light plugged in to a USB charger in my saddle bag while riding so runtime isn't an issue. Great review! Saw your other videos and subscribed. There aren't that many reviews on bike lights on YT, let alone a channel reviewing multiple bike lights. Hope you get to test and compare this to other high lumen output tailights like the Cygolite 350, Serfas 300, etc.

Just tried it out, it turns off when being charged. I don't believe any of the tail lights we've reviewed allow you to charge and run it. We recently reviewed the Magicshine RN 1200 headlight that actually does let you charge on the go, and even charge other devices at the same time though. We'll definitely try to get our hands on the Cygolite and Serfas lights for this winter. It's pretty crazy how bright tail lights are becoming.

@@TheSweetCyclists I ride a class3 e-bike. I use a light made by NiteRider, that projects an abundant amount of light well ahead. That's important when I'm going at a super fast speed down a hill, to make sure I don't outrun the light. I like my light a lot, but it's far from perfect. The biggest problem is that there is a lot of light spill. I'm not keen on blinding pedestrians and drivers. I'm not a fan of the mount and had to create my hack, to make satisfy my needs. Finally my light does not use a USB-C charger. The makers Outbound Lighting, have appeared to achieved near perfection. It seem they have addressed all my issues and more. I optimistically look forward to you getting a demo unit and performing a review.✍

Sorry to hear that. It's still a great taillight without the brake sensor especially in the "smart mode". The downside of the Seemee lights is that the brake sensor is pretty sensitive. Other taillights like the Kryptonite XBR or Lupine Rotlicht have adjustable or less sensitive brake sensors.

Good question, we've gone through quite a few taillights over the years. Right now I've been using the NiteRider Bullet 200 and the Knog Blinder V. Both lights aren't as smart as the Magicshine Seemee 200 but they are a little sleeker and have better side visibility.

In your video it looks like both LEDs (rear and downward-facing) are solid when in constant mode. I just bought one of these and can’t figure out how to make both LEDs constant. When it’s in constant mode the downward LED flashes, and when it’s in flash mode the downward LED is constant. I want no flashing from either LED. Any insight on this? Thanks for your videos, they’re a great resource.
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 3 жыл бұрын
That might just be video artifact, I don't think there is a mode with both solid. One is solid while the other one is blinking as you've already realized in all the modes. Bu the way, the Olight RN 120 (the Olight branded version of this light) is a little more affordable and doesn't have the downward facing LED.

It is just a friction fit and we haven't had any issues with it so far. You shouldn't have to remove the plastic mount from the rails each time, you just rotate the light off it (it's similar to a Garmin quarter turn style mount).

The idea of the second down facing optic was done by DING bike lights over 6 years ago. They have a patent on the invention. They have a rear light and new front coming out late 2022 with the downward beam included. They should be good. Shame other brands copy their idea…

@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
Smart mode is a single mode that automatically switches between a "daytime" mode and a "night time" output mode based on the ambient light sensor. You don't have to worry about anything, it's a really convenient mode to use.

@@scotthorvath6779 Yea, it isn't obvious when you're actually in the "smart mode". One way to test it is by covering up the ambient light sensor (I believe it is on the side) or going to a dark area to verify the mode switches to the "night time flash" (a low high flash).

I have three doubts 1) In smart mode, will the brightness of the bottom Light also adjust according to ambient light sensor or bottom light glows in constant brightness? 2) Another doubt is, whether ambient light sensor works in all mode or only in smart mode? 3) Will brake light works in all modes or in smart mode only?
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
Great questions. (1) In smart mode the light switches from: (day) Front LED flashes - bottom LED off and (night) Outer ring / bottom LED constant + inner flashing. What is unique about smart mode is that it's the only mode that switches between a distinct day/night mode for the front LED. (2) Light sensor works in all the modes, it simply shuts off the bottom tracer LED in all the modes during the day. At night the bottom LED will be constant in flash modes + smart mode / flashing in the 3 constant mode options. (3) Brake light works in all modes but you can turn the motion sensor off for all modes. You just have to hold the power button for 5 seconds while the light is off to enable (taillight will turn on with constant mode) /disable it (taillight will flash)

The Seemee 200 is brighter with higher claimed runtimes. In flash day mode the Seemee 200 is 125 Lumen / 18hr while the Bontrager RT is 90 Lumen / 6hr. Note you may want to turn off the Seemee 200's brake sensor to get more consistent runtimes. We haven't ridden with the Hotshot Pro 200, but based on the specs it seems like an interesting light. It seems to have an ambient light sensor, but it doesn't have a brake sensor. It's the same design, but about 50% the size of normal Garmin mounts. Since the taillight is so small, using a full size Garmin mount would probably look pretty strange. Most Magicshine lights use this smaller Garmin style mount while other companies use rubber straps. I prefer this design, as it's easy to remove the light from the mount for charging.

Hi, I have seeme 180 and I'm very disappointed on the battery run time with the brake sensor on :( !!!! Even with the flash or smart mode ON + brake sensor the battery becomes completely depleted after about 1h of ride in ambient temp. ~20 deg. Celsius !!! Light is useless if you want the brake sensor ON which I consider essential for bike riding, especially in a pack of riders. How the battery run time of seeme 200 compares ? The unit is larger so I assume the battery is better ? I would appreciate your feedback, please measure the run time with flash mode + brake sensor, Thanks.
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you're having issues. With all the Seemee lights the brake sensor can really reduce the battery life, especially if you ride on bumpy roads that could keep triggering the sensor. We had more than 1 hour runtime, but would recommend turning off the brake sensor and using the "smart" mode for the best performance. Personally I prefer the Seemee 180 over the 200, as you cannot turn off the bottom LED on the 200.

Good question - it depends on whether the light sensor thinks its daytime or nighttime. For nighttime the "Interactive mode" has the highest runtime of 4.5 hours while daytime the standard "Flash" is the best at 25 hours. Personally I just leave it in the "smart" mode as it gives you 50 hr / 3 hr for day/night . The main difference between "Flash" and "Interactive" is that "Interactive" alternates between the outer LED ring then the inner LED. The normal flash mode has both LEDs in sync.

Unfortunately, it cannot be turned off. It's a cool feature but it does reduce the battery life. That's one reason I tend to ride with the Seemee 180 taillight instead.

One more thing... Before I bought the Seemee 200, after reading dozens of reviews, the first obvious choice was the Bontrager Flare RT. And I almost bought it, if it wasn't for this review, which drew my attention to one important detail - the possibility of attaching the lamp to the saddle. I didn't think about it before, but the dropper post on my new MTB bike actually makes it impossible to use tail lights that are attached directly to the seatpost. Bontrager offers a saddle mount lights option, but only a for Blendr system saddle. I found a company on the internet that produces brackets for attaching Bontrager lights to a typical saddle, but for almost $ 40. Dropper seatposts becomes more and more popular. In my opinion, light manufacturers should offer mounting tail lights to the saddle as standard / eventually as an option. And I think, You can help it happen.

So where is the brake sensor? How does it work and look like????
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists Жыл бұрын
The brake sensor is an accelerometer sensor that is integrated into the housing, you can't see it from the exterior. It simply detects deceleration, it doesn't actually know when you are pressing the brake lever which is why it can have false-positives.

@@bigwheelsturning No worries. The Seemee lights also have ambient light sensors located on the side. If you put it in the smart mode, you can test it by placing your hand in the right location and covering it up.

@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 3 жыл бұрын
Are you sure it is fully charged? You may want to try different USB cables or outlets - I've had a similar issue with a Bontrager Flare RT light (it would show 'green' very quickly then show low battery status when used). If that doesn't fix it, Magicshine's customer support is pretty nice and can probably send a replacement.

Yes it fully charged and when i charged it its so very quick to show green light..in the manual said that you can charge it in 2 hrs. To show fully charged.

In that case, you may want to try a different outlet or plug. If that doesn't work, definitely reach out to Magicshine support about a potential replacement. They are pretty responsive.

Yes. Olight uses modified Magicshine lights. The big difference is that the Seemee 200 has the bottom facing LED and higher output than the Olight RN 120.

It is micro USB unfortunately. Other Magicshine lights are moving to USB-C so we expect the next generation of Seemee lights to also move to USB-C.

To get the best ride time out of the Seemee lights, I turn off the brake sensor and leave it on the 'smart mode'. That lets me get away with only charging the light about every other week. Otherwise, the tail lights have been holding up well and really are almost too bright on the road.

Why are you measuring the weight of the light?! Who cares if it is 50g heavier. The most important is the intensity of the light and you have spend the minimum time talking about this. Amazing! Whoever thinks that this extra 50g makes any difference is insance.
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the feedback. We usually measure weight of all the items we review. It doesn't matter that much for taillights but it's helpful to know and only takes ~15 seconds to show. If there is any additional 'light output' related content you'd like to see, let me know though. We're happy to incorporate it in future bike light reviews.

@@TheSweetCyclists Yes, what I need to know (and I think most of the cyclists need the same) is its light intensity (in Lummen). This is most important on a backlight (and even more on a front light). However I am afraid that the advertized number of Lummens is way different to what really are. Almost none mention it on the light itself.
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 3 жыл бұрын
The thing to look for is FL-1 rated lumens, that ensures the testing procedure is the same for all the lights. Otherwise there are a lot of cheap Amazon lights falsely advertised with 5000 lumen or more but haven't been tested in the same manner
