@@josee.1709 well in the beginning Magnus asks if he has his own shoes and Larry says no and gets rentals, also I'm pretty sure the whole point of these types of videos is to see how guys perform outside of their comfort zone and how impressive they are considering they are very very heavy and outside of their expertise without any training, techniques or anything and just using raw strength mostly, that's usually why I'd assume Magnus encourages them to try it again

I love these kinds of videos. First of all, Larry and Eddie have both been just super kind and friendly which is cool to see. But it’s also interesting to see these very strong and muscular men try climbing. Yeah, he's a nice guy but I'm not sure there's much interesting in getting more of these really strong guys to try climbing. It's the same thing every time. They're super heavy, so it makes it super hard for them to climb. That's basically it. I think it'd be more interesting to get people on who specialise in similar disciplines to climbing, or in disciplines which are helpful for climbing. Flexibility is really helpful in climbing, so get a contortionist on to see how they get up the wall or something. Could be interesting.

Think about it : "His success is build on becoming strong by taking all kind of peds in absurd amounts" not really someone i personally can look up to. @@Aaron86v I don't know Larry's background, but I do know that Eddie Hall was a champion swimmer when he was a teenager and still has a sub 30-second 50 meter freestyle. He's big but is very athletic despite his size.
@GRAYgauss
@GRAYgauss Жыл бұрын
@@Aaron86v Yeah, Larry needs to work on his muscle group integration... Absolutely from his discipline which only has synthetic and disjoint forms... His body is pretty godlike, but there's nothing better than power to weight flexible functionality...But if he has that body already, he's only a few months away from becoming unstoppable...imagine if someone like Larry went full on with things like climbing, swimming, gymnastics, or MMA without modifying their other training...The body would naturally find the best average between the two tasks... If you look at the moment in the video where he was gripping that purple start and magnus said to rotate around the shoulder - not pull - you can see Larry is probably doing 10x the effort just for trying his naive way...Definitely goes to show Eddie's more natural strongman applied... I think Eddie is a "just doer" too, I've found most of the intuitive atheletes can't explain what they do, they just do it - Larry is more cerebral, and being that way myself, I know that one's mind can rule the body simply by frayed consternation. You hear Larry explaining what and why..he's processing too much, Eddie seemed to just be a bull that tried being concerned with why he's struggling. It's almost like for beng able to explain, that conscious awareness impinges upon the speed at which you can be dexterous and thus the quality of your rapid decision making. It's like a watched pot never boils... Things that should happen instantly and subconscious get explained with your iteration and in that focus you wasted precious thought processing that should have been just utilized to move, not think about moving, why it's struggling, etc... I compare it to using a debugger in programming development.
@yarnf

@@Aaron86v Eddie hall learned to generate momentum out of positions incredibly quickly, I was really impressed with his natural athleticism. He was swinging and deadpointing to catch holds within just a few climbs. There were climbs where he was squeezing two footholds in opposite directions at times too, something you'll never see a beginner do, and his pace of moving feet was really good. Its really cool seeing the caliber of athlete there is underneath that much muscle with the WSM guys.

I love these guys! They're such an interesting mix of humility, competitiveness, and confidence. Their mindsets are just different from your average Joe. I think the way their brains work is a big part of what makes them champions. Love your videos Magnus! The quality of what you put out is unparalleled. Much love brother!

I think the thing I love the most about those videos is it shows how kind hearted those people are for the people that don't know them. For a lot of people the gym/climbing gym is a scary place but this kind of video remind people that even being a beginner people will always be kind to you.

There's a really interesting youtuber called Mike Boyd who documents how long it takes him to learn skills and he has recently fallen in love with climbing in a big way. I think you and him could make a really cool collab.

I think what I appreciate most about these videos is your expression of the climber ethos: be super supportive to all new comers no matter their skill level and help them identify their strengths. Thanks for modeling that for KZfaq universe, Magnus

Amazing bit of content Magnus. You have been a HUGE part in the growth of climbing in the last few years trough videos like this, which bridge the gaps between these communities. Opening up more eyes to see the beautiful sport of climbing, thank you Magnus.
