The delightful, melodic ‘Airport Song’ (Chris Simpson) stands out as a true classic from the legendary folk-masters Magna Carta. Released in 1970 on the ‘Season’s album for the Vertigo Label, famous for their progressive repertoire.
Prior to this Chris Simpson (guitar-vocals), Glen Stuart & Lyell Tranter formed Magna Carta in 1969 and recorded their self-titled debut album which was released on Mercury.
Seasons, reached number 55 on the UK Albums Chart, and soon after Tranter got married and returned to Australia.
‘Seasons’ was produced by Gus Dudgeon, arranged by later successful producer Tony Visconti, and the session musicians included organist Rick Wakeman, drummer Barry Morgan, jazz double bassist Spike Heatley, and among others.
‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ is an excellent compilation of their music, I can certainly recommend Magna Carta’s epic ‘Lord of the Ages’.
Note: back in 1970 the world didn't have mobile phones, and much of the airport signage wasn't digital. This video is a modern interpretation visually, and I hope you enjoy it, and will comment & share, as many don't know about the great music of Chris Simpson, thank you, Gary
