Yes those pieces of what you guys said looked like a roller coaster chain is actually part of a conveyer type system that the guys would guide the logs on and the conveyer type chain carried the logs up out of the river and the men would either stack them on land or guide them into the building for processing IE debarking and shaping the logs so they wer strait. Stay safe. Cheers.😊

Tyler, I think those square links you're finding are actually, part of a drag-line used to tie logs together like a floating raft loggers could stand on to get out further into the river system.

That 'picaroon' (pls forgive the spelling) might be hand-forged, making it a early piece of logging equipment and more valuable than something purchased from an industrial supplier. Most of what you're pulling up looks to be part of the early American lumber industry. Have a local historian check out any tools you find in that section of the river -- Oconto was an important lumber town even before Wisconsin became a state and has a long, colorful history involving copper mining and smelting that goes back 10,000 to 12,000 years! Any copper tools you find may be prehistoric and worth their weight in gold. You might also want to check out antique fishing lures -- collectors are paying amazing prices for them, so treat anything you pull up that's made of wood and shaped like an insect or small fish with great care. You might be able to buy a new boat on what comes out of that section of river!

Those staples were hammered into the end of each log and the chain was attached along with another staple to end of the log behind it. That’s how the logs were drug down the river. That’s why u found a staple in the end of that chain.

Looks like you landed on an old mill pond. The big staples and big rounded links were typically used on log rafts. As well as the pickeroons. There were some other pieces that looked like links to an old log feeder system that would pull logs out of the water and feed a sawmill. The one piece of a blade you found looks like one end of a saw blade that operated like a drag saw and the circular piece was small enough to be for a finish saw.

ok, i gotta ask! being here in Oklahoma, our rivers and creeks are very prone to get out of their banks - flooding is a very real and common danger. but the rivers and canals in your videos all seem to have low banks and houses right up on the bank. do you not have flooding in Wisconsin that would make houses on the edge of the river in danger of being flooded or washed away? that being said, the scenery is so pretty and green, and i would really like to visit your state some time! but those houses on the bank and low banks are something! i enjoy your videos very much, i learn something from each one - keep up the good work! and that Owen is a cutie to boot!:)

I think them big giant staple things are for sticking in the log and running chains. Or ropes through them to keep the logs together When they float them down the river.if I'm not mistaken.

If you kept yourself some chain cutters, it would come handy. It’s a line of what you’re involved in when it comes to maggot fishing do you need extra tools like a long steel pole to search for your magnet underwater will help it jiggle it out long steel pole to push the boat against the sides, how about a claw I don’t see the claw too often but it sure can’t come in pretty pretty handy at times many many times hardly ever see it maybe once out of 22 times now it’s chain cutters … You do shovel to keep it clean shovel out the dirt that’s pretty smart👍🏼 And the horseshoe for good luck that’s pretty awesome👍🏼 So I guess that’s about it it’s a little Little umbrella to keep a lot of sun. That sure comes in a little Littlr handy.
