Brian Flechsig is back for a review / tutorial on the magnetic fly threader, an amazing tool for threading fly's easy!
This little tool has a notch with an underlying magnet for you to simply place the eye of the fly in, then slide your tippet down the groove... And presto! Fly is threaded. Works on even the smallest of flies!

I have to admit that this is probably the best gadget ever for threading eyed hooks. And I found it works with bare hooks as well. 10/10

Does this tool work well for jig hooks where the eye is in line with the hook shank and does it work for bead head flies? Thanks

Chris, does not really work well on jig hooks. It does although work on bead head flies, no problem. Thanks for checking with us.

Will this work with a standard hook? I assume you put the eye of the hook in as shown, and then you push forward into the v-shaped slot until it holds in place. SFor example the eye on a standard crappie sized aberdeen hook fit and hold in place by the magnet?

Hard to say. This is mostly for smaller hooks where the eye is harder to see/thread. Guessing not but you can call the shop and the guys there should know better. 614-451-0363.

Nice, but seems like it would mess up parachute flies, some stone fly patterns that have biots that extend beyond the body & hook eye, and probably wouldn't thread properly flies like some floating hopper or ant patterns where there is foam projecting beyond the hook eye. True?
