Audi Mag ride suspension fault and shock overview. These commonly leak / mist oil over time and require a complete replacement. When the oil leaks out the shocks become soft and cause the ride to become floppy.

I have a 2016 Audi s3. I have to go over a speed bump in order for the problem to happen, but the passenger front side seams like when the whole car comes down off the speed bump the right side goes back up and then down. you can kind of feel it when it does that. But I get no other problems no noise, normal driving conditions it does great. minor bumps in roadway not an issue. I did put it into comfort mode, and it seemed not to "hit" so hard. I am assuming it's the shocks but without any other noise i question if it's not something else. Not holding anyone accountable but is it possible that the shocks could be out only off the bases of the speed bumbs and no other real sighns?

I would recommend getting your suspension checked out first. Could be a top strut mount problem, or a bush. Check those items first for any play before proceeding onto the shock.

What year was the s3 that you showed the part number for? I have an ‘09 S3 Sportback and can’t find the Audi part number so I can order new shocks!! 😢

It was a 2010 S3 but it should be the same part number for your car.

what are the syptomes to determine when the mag ride is bad on the car. my car has a very harsh ride. its on h&r springs but still very harsh ride. any bump is like its hitting the bump stop

Can you get clunks? Mines horrible noise had new original tops mounts and bearing, plus drivers side ball joint changed, mechanics now saying my shocks going bad, during bounce test it makes a crunch noise

@@BringBapeBack yes thats the issue when the shocks have failed, they have no resistance.

Hello, I have some questions about the video and the magnetic shock absorbers that I hope you can answer. But first, let me provide a bit of context. Currently, I am studying mechatronic engineering at university. As part of a project with some colleagues, we are working on developing an active suspension for an off-road kart, similar to those used in competitions like Baja SAE. My responsibility in this project is to research possible options for shock absorbers that we could use. During my search, I came across various categories of shock absorbers, but magnetic shock absorbers caught my attention due to their rapid response time. However, unfortunately, there is very little documentation available on their operation and the power supply to the actuators inside, such as the electromagnet. Now, regarding my questions: 1.- Does the shock absorber shown in the video necessarily need to be energized to support the weight of the vehicle, or can it support it without receiving current? 2.-Do you think these shock absorbers (Magnetic Ride Audi Shock Absorbers) could be adapted to an off-road vehicle, especially one of the Baja SAE type? This is relevant because Baja SAE vehicles typically weigh around 250 kilograms, while a conventional car exceeds 1000 kilograms. 3.-With what specific voltage or current are these shock absorbers powered? I appreciate in advance any guidance or information you can provide to answer these questions. Thank you very much!

No it does not, this one has failed hence why it compressors so easily. See my other video for the test mode you will get an understanding how it works. 2. Yes it will work, however this system works of level sensors and speed sensors as the inputs so this would have to be programmed for off road driving otherwise the ride would be to harsh. 3. It operates on 12v and draws a fair amount of current i belive upto 30-40amps for all the shocks. PWM is how it controlled so by varying the voltage you can change the stiffness.

Hello, i own a audi tts 2009 same magnetic struts, any brand or place to buy, i need a front struts but audis are very expensive $800 up, and i was checking on ebay much cheaper , around $200 each what do you suggest best regards

If i have an error and the problem is from the sensor, can it be changed? Only the sensor.

Yes if its a level sensor problem, no if its a failed shock. There isn't a sensor on the shocks absorbers but rather the control module and input sensors.

Most of the time there are no codes present unless there is an electrical issue with the shock absorber. No fault codes for this one

What's a reasonable lifespan for these type of shocks/dampers? I mean how many km based on normal usage?

Hard to say, I've seen some fail at 40,000km and others last beyond 100,000km. Only by testing these shocks and checking for oil leaks can you determine if its ok or not.

So expensive to replace new, not so bad via that Polish rebuild company. If you go the coilover route, the UK insurance companies crucify you with premium increased of 70%. Better off getting them rebuilt and add a set of appropriate springs to replace the rusted out OEM ones.
