Ding Liren won the championship title one time and he was drained and now disappeared from tournaments. Nepo nearly collapsed at the final match against Ding. That speaks volumes about the amount of pressure these guys are in. Magnus carried the title for several years. What an absolute champion and fighter he is.

Imagine Karpov and Kasparov from 1984 to 1987, they were almost continuously fighting in a match against each other, playing 4 matches in 3 years and 120 World Chess Championship games. And it was extremely close, with a score of 17-16 for Kasparov with 87 draws after the 1987 match.

Ding did more than just that. He endured 3 years of chess isolation followed by a marathon schedule of non-stop chess to get to the championship, and then won. There’s no wonder he was drained. But before all that he was already thinking to retire from chess, so who knows if/when he’ll be back?
@conelord1984

@@lechatcool9363 they had to study and prepare all the same. The time spent and the number of lines to remember were at the same scale, just less optimized. Chess requires dedication and will power. You may be a prodigy, but if you don't pay the necessary time and effort you will be left behind. Magnus already reach the top. Now, unlike his predecessors, he became lazy and don't want to put all the effort anymore, which is fine if he retired. Still he keeps playing and whining which is very unsightly.

According to the interview with magnus, I think chucky offered a draw at move 30, then being completely uninterested after magnus declined. I think he was angry at magnus for not taking the "win" by accepting the draw. Then just blitzing the moves, wanting to get this over with as soon as possible.

When people had very less expectations, he was an absolute beast. But now there's just too much pressure on him and a lot of expectations. (The beast part doesn't change. He's still the strongest). Even if he comes second in a time tournament, the big news is that "Magnus lost" as compared to his opponent even though he won. He has mastered handling the on board pressure but off board is just too much. SO IT'S TIME FOR ME TO TAKEOVER THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER MAGNUS! 👍

In the last World Cup, Indians were celebrating the fact that Vidit was the one who had reached the quarterfinals after Vishy (Vishy has won the world cup btw in, I guess, 2000). Now, we are seeing 3 Indians already qualified and potentially there could be 4 Indians in the Quarterfinals (which is 50% of the players remaining). Even though Magnus is so bad in chess recently, I still watch all of his matches. I don't interest in chess before but now I like it because of your videos and Magnus. I don't like football but I like C.Ronaldo. I don't like chess but I like Magnus. I don't like the anime but I like One Piece. I don't like movie but I like Avengers.

So bad in chess recently? he has already won two events in 2023 in crushing fashion, going as far as winning one of them with a perfect 9/9 score. Not to mention the fact that he is clearly starting to elevate his classical play again for this tournament which he stands a very good chance of winning.

It's really funny to me how even someone as experienced as Levy seems to overlook the fact that swift piece movement doesn't necessarily indicate a lack of thoughtful consideration. Although he's undoubtedly aware of this, it's amusing to observe his choice of words in both this video and his previous one, as his tone implies that he isn't aware that you can still think and calculate moves during your opponent's turn 💀

Phil Ivey said something similar to what Magnus said (obviously about World Series of Poker) and he’s one of the best. I think once you hit a certain level you look back and realized you played thousands to million games and that magic you felt just slowly disappears. Just crazy to think that the summit these Legends are at is something I know I won’t get to personally see. Simply amazing.

I think at this point after his recent performances and his career as a whole, we should just undisputedly call him the GOAT, Fischer might've been maybe more talented at his peak and Garry might've been the most well rounded and flawless but Magnus is like a combo of them both I think if he wins this tournament we should just call him the GOAT

I get the guy. When you grow up you give up your autistic "I wanna learn everything about this" streak and you want to diversify your life. When your livelihood is dependent on that it also gets a bit annoying. Also, starting to move to full adulthood (30-35), the first signs of fatigue knock on the door (you can see on his response and demeanor, he's a bit fed up), so you start to get a different disposition. It's a good thing that he can start living the life after getting on top of the world. His honesty is really good too. Maybe he'll find fulfillment in teaching younger kids or doing some chess charity when he's 50. Or...I don't know...maybe he'll get a collab with the Botezes and dominate the Poker tables :)
