Finally a London system game i know you hate it KC but its one of my Favs. One of the few openings that pretty much guarantees parity into the mid game.

Love the vids but I doubt I will keep watching them if they have four unskippable commercials like this one did. I get that that's how you get paid but it was a bit much. One of them hit right in the middle of a sentence! I hope you can turn those down a notch.

I actually saw c5 and reason behind it but then I was looking at it as a puzzle not how I'd normally play

With the knight "sacrifice" Magnus could have also won the queen with an additional bishop sac

This. In response to either King f8 or h8, a bishop check discovers an attack on Black's queen, winning decisively for white.

I wish you'd taken the time to explain c6 rather than give more history. Perhaps there are similar forced moves you skip. I'm new and still need to learn the reasons for the correct responses.

I'm glad Magnus won, solely for the fact that Giri was way too smug about his positive score against Carlsen.

Imo it was very exciting because yet again Magnus managed to create an unfamiliar position with interesting play out of a seemingly dull and equal opening. He consciously avoided moves that would lead toward equality, even giving black a slight objective advantage(from the computer's point of view). This game was a reminder, for me at least, that computer evaluation can only tell us so much about a position, because in the end it is down to how difficult it is for the players to find the correct moves. Magnus also made some unexpected, again objectively not best moves, when Giri was in time trouble(queen d2 comes to mind). This eventually lead to a blunder by Giri, giving Magnus his first win against this incredibly tenacious player. In this tournament Magnus took many risks, but they paid off. This is a sign of his good form lately, meaning that he's confident enough to take said risks in order to increase his chances of winning instead of drawing. I also really liked the "football scoring system" that was used in the tournament, and eventhough there were still many draws, Magnus proved that taking risks in such a tournament can be very beneficial. This might lead to more interesting games in the future.
