I purchased a used m400 by Sig Sauer not that long ago and it came with the old Magpul furniture. I recently switched it up and changed the color now it's two-tone black and gray and it is all M-Lok compatible. For those of you looking to do something like this....... Palmetto State Armory is in fact the cheapest place where you will find authentic Magpul furniture.

Well there is plenty of hand guard tutorials on KZfaq. Pretty much the same process for carbine lengths

I found it VERY helpful to use a credit card in between both halfs when you get a little gap to seperate.

I built an AR and the barrel I got already had the gas block installed as well as the front (ring?) to hold the drop in handguard. The gas block does not have a front sight or a sling attachment point. I did buy this same magpul drop in handguard to complete the upper. My questions is this: Is this handguard strong enough to attach a QD point to put my sling on? Or will the force end up breaking the drop in handguard? The other option I am considering is a strap around the handguard with a D-ring on it to attach the sling to. Thoughts?

The SL will fit too. You just have to drill out the bolt on that sling mount and it fits right over!

You can also drive the front sling swivel rivet with a punch.

you should check out the SL handguard the bottom and sides go past the front sight base it really rocks

I did and was going to get it but this one has the "Sling" attachment and it would push it forward and not function and look kinda funny. It does look NICE.

@@BeyondSeclusion I usually just punch the pinout and use a piece of paracord tied off to the A2 sight for a sling Mount anyways since it's silent instead of clinging around

How well does it manage with heat, as it is pretty open at 12 o'clock where the gas tube sits and only has 1 heat shield? Thanks!

Can the heat shield be easily removed? I’m probably wrong, but it actually looked like black plastic instead of metal. I doubt thin plastic would actually work in that application. Anyway, wouldn’t it need to be removed to add an M-Loc forward grip?

No need to add a rail, an MLOK compatible grip can be installed in one of the long slots. You *can* install a rail to add a grip to a more specific place, but you can most certainly go without.

Can you install the Magpul mid-length or rife-length handguard on the same setup or would you need to change additional parts on the AR15?

Depends on the location of your gas block. If it's a carbine gas block, you'll have to get carbine sized unless you change the barrel.

@@NihilisticHatred With the M&P 15 Sport 2, would you need to change the stock gas block and 16" barrel to install the Magpul Mid-Length or Rifle-Length Hand-Guard? Is there a lightweight and durable Barrel/Gastube/Handguard package you would recommend for the M&P 15 Sport 2? Or is it better to install an entirely new Upper Receiver Package? I'm currently using the Magpul MOE M-Lok Carbine-Length Handguard, looking to find the most optimal setup and form.

@@TeslaSoCal I don't know what your setup is looking like but a Magpul carbine handguard should hold all the goodies you'd need.

@@TeslaSoCalm&p 15 is a carbine length. You don’t need a mid or rifle length Handguard. If your going to go through the trouble of getting a new barrel just to use the magpul midlength or rifle length hand guard, you might as well just keep your barrel you already have and get a low profile gas block from bcm and get a bcm free float Handguard. Will cost the same as getting a new barrel but your getting a much sturdier Handguard than the plastic magpul one. For the money, a free float setup is far superior vs a classic style Handguard.

Not at all actually, a lot of people find it easier to acquire your target with a fixed front sight,

For 16 inch barrels you want the 6.6, which is 7.1 over all installed

The sl suffers from getting hot where the moe does not. Plus the fact you have to remove your sling attachment point from your front sight post. If you want a slim Handguard get a free float and don’t wast time on the slim line

i switched back to the usgi clam shell... the magpul handguards would get hot and shoot all the heat up.... into your sights.... I like magpul but they made this cheap handguard for the..... fanboys who don't really use the rifle much.

@@BeyondSeclusion sorry it's just a little bit frustrating every video I have found doesn't actually show the removal or the installation of the handguard or they start the video with the handguard already removed. Every time that I've done one I end up fighting the damn thing I need a third hand to pull the handguard off while I use both hands to push down the damn doohickey. People on these videos make it sound like it's a piece of cake but they don't actually show themselves doing it and if I knew an easier way to do it I would post an installation video

Yes - for DROP IN handguards. Magpul makes them in the different gas lengths, so make sure you get the right length. (I've seen carbine length and mid-length)
