In an epic electric car challenge we are attempting to drive to Sandakphu, on East India's highest road, in the all-electric Mahindra XUV400. Our starting point is Maneybhanjang, 6325 feet above sea level. From there we climb 5605 feet in just 31km to reach Sandakphu. This is a proper 4x4 country, but can also electric car tackle the steep slopes, rutted tracks and brutal weather? It's the first time an EV is attempting this feat, to get to the only place on earth where you can see four of the highest peaks in the world - Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga and Makalu. Editor Sirish Chandran is behind the wheel of the Mahindra XUV400 but can he make it to the top? Challenge accepted!
Special thanks to Lion Charge for setting up Darjeeling's first electric vehicle charger, and helping us attempt this feat!

Hi, Channel and host Ashish Chandran, Congratulations!, For taking a life time journey with Mahindra XUV 400 ev. A very challenging task, with lots of apprehensions of an EV, that's too to Sandakphu in Darjeling Hills. The very first promo of TATA Punch was shot on this route with a young lady, grand daughter of old Land Rover I 70. She drove non stop from base starting point to the top without any break or stop, that's proved the versality of a micro, compact SUV from TATA. At the summit promo showed the Legendary Sleeping Buddha Peak. Truly Amazing! Today's Sunday TOI, wrote an article on these Land Rover Defender 70 story. Most of old Petrol engines are replaced by modern Mahindra Bolero Diesel engines, their struggle to get a Heritage Status for Defenders, and worries to loose business as paved road is coming up fast. Anyway, a great attempt was made by you, but an unfortunate landslide blocked the way to top, plus clouds. Range anxiety, charging infrastructure are two main challenges are for adopation of EV. Looking forward to Channel.

very good & daring drive in an EV Sirish. just one question, would reducing the tire pressure helped in getting more traction through the steep climb. how much charge was left when the drive was discontinued? all the best, one of the best real world drive so far

We tried it; dropped to 15PSI, but it didn't work. The XUV had more than 60 percent charge left.

landslide or not, damp surface or not, no FWD or RWD can go up the last climb from BhikeyBhanjan. I've driven to Sandakphu in my Thar 2022, and I have no shame in admitting that the last 6 hairpin bends terrified me. I don't know if such terrifying hairpin bends are anywhere else in the world

The XUV 400 should have been a RWD. There won’t be the need of CV joints for the front wheels. It would have a good front to rear weight distribution. Most importantly it would be able to POWER OVERSTEER. Mahindra should figure out an independent rear suspension with the motor mounted to the differential.

our phone and powerbank's batteries tend to deplete and die early as we go at higher altitudes, what about an EV?
@evoIndia

There’s thermal management so the battery temperatures are maintained and there’s no depletion. It’s only the added power that’s required to climb steep slopes that puts the strain on batteries

Even mahindra is migrating to lfp, and going forward only XUV 400 will be the only ev left with nmc..so in case of an unfortunate incident there will be parts scarcity, longer wait times etc. not sure if the current discounts can match to all that risk
@Roopesh357
@Roopesh357 2 ай бұрын
@@shadoecarjah Don't worry about the battery techs they all have only slight differences. Tesla model S plaid,model X, some BMW cars, Other performance cars uses NCA tech which is even danger than NMC but with proper management of battery there is no problems. Also NMC and LFP are almost similar and in my opinion as Mahindra uses NMC of Farasis it must be stable than TATAs Agrataas batteries which is produce by themselves. Also in NMC you will get better performance, smaller battery size, Faster charging which are adequate to EVs.LFP and NMC are just words. You all guys are just believing that 3 words blindly. Tata uses very unstable batterys. They have slow charging speed , over sized, Not a proper brand. Mahindra uses NMC from Farasis which is one of the best batteries producer in world. XUV400s battery have no complaints ever reported. Whereas for TATA there are cars which got this cheap LFP replacement more than 3 times haha so funny right. Even TATA uses their ICE platform for EVs also. They have very slow charging speed 30kw wheras Mahindra got 50kw charging speed. Mahindra uses proper NMC. Tata uses some cheap battery which says it's LFP. Also LFP is a testing technology where NMC is a tested tech which makes it even more stable. Brands like VOLVO,BMW, MERCEDES-BENZ, premium cars of TESLA,KIA, HYUNDAI all uses this NMC tech which is similar to Mahindras. . Hope you understand how China is TATAs LFP
