Before he was known as Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, the world knew him as Chris Jackson. Now 53 years old, Abdul-Rauf is re-examining his nuanced legacy in the new Showtime documentary "Stand," which will be debuting on February 3rd. While many are familiar with the controversy surrounding his refusal to stand for the national anthem, there are still many elements of his story that remain unknown. Let's take a closer look at Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and his fascinating story.

A lot of his speeches and interviews are posted on KZfaq. All of them are deep and very interesting. Also, his autobiography, "In The Blink Of An Eye" was also recently published. In the book he talks about not knowing who his father is (even until this day), the intense poverty he experienced, not having enough to eat growing up as a child, and how certain members of his hometown community tried to threaten and coerce his family members to force him to go to Ole Miss University, instead of LSU. The audio version of his autobiography "In The Blink Of An Eye" is on KZfaq, too. It's free to listen to. It's a great book.

Till this day it still breaks my heart that the NBA robbed him of his career and I'm glad he's in a better place. Akhi Mahmoud was my favorite player in college and the NBA before the league engaged in such a criminal act against this beautiful soul. He is a revert like myself and he was a role model for me. This Doc "STAND" is long over due but glad it's finally here for all to see, Alhamdulillah. to Akhi, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu.

Every time I hear He was Steph Curry before Steph Curry, I watched them both. Different Eras in terms of defence. I love curry bcuz of his father Dell and what he brought to the game as a ball handler, not a shooter. Because Rauf is absolutely is much better shooter and a leaper than him but Steph handles way much better than Rauf. But overall as a shooting guard, Rauf is better than Steph. This undebatable. At least for me.

The herb, had to bring your A game to play there in the 90s... no soft fouls either... grew up in Biloxi. Played in the gyms on Keesler mostly. But while playing AAU, we got our most competitive pick up(practice) games at the herb or the GRC. If you didn't pick Mahmoud up at half court in a pick game, he would drop buckets...

@@chrisshowers2192 if you were hooping on Keesler in 99 we probably played together. I was 20 then. I will say, the runs weren't as good then. I got here in 94, I was 15. Competition was tough. Saturday mornings there would be about 30 ppl waiting for the doors to open. If you lost, had to wait 4 games to get back on the court.
