Are those magnetic connectors polarised? Second thing, about using them for USB, you might expect some problems with this use, as USB is designed to connect first power pins, then data. In this case all of pins will be connected at the same time. It's possible that anything you connect will work anyway.

The magnets polarize them by repelling when backwards and I don’t know if I will be needing to hot-swap, I just need to be able to replace modules occasionally. I haven’t looked too much into it but maybe there’s different connectors with different pin lengths so two different connectors could be used to separate data and power if needed.

With the magnetic pogo joiners, concerned question, have they got a key way or are the magnets polarity different to each other, to stop from connecting wrong way and blowing something up?

The idea might be to make the connections symmetric, like USB-C.

if the connectors are backwards the magnets repel and won’t dock, but in my application I wouldn’t have them freely dangling where are they could potentially go backwards, they would be approaching each other ideally already aligned but being able to account for some small tolerance in positioning

The magnets are situated so the connector can only mate when the magnets are not repelling so it seems like they set it up so the magnet poles are the keying mechanism. if you try to dock the connector the wrong way the magnets will keep it from getting close

yeah I want to get some sort of prototype thing going because previously I looked at all kinds of other connector options including I think they call it drawer connecters it’s sort of a low insertion force type self aligning thing but it’s bulky and I’m finding it hard to find consistent inventory so these will be good.
