And since I thought of it randomly the name shouldn't even exist. So i was proud that I created an original and unique name. My friend asked me where i got 'alceus' she said it sounded greek. So I searched it up and ended up finding the name 'alcaecus' if i remember son of Perseus It was really weird though, I NEVER got inspired when i thought of alceus, it was completely original, unique, and a shower thought lol.

the movie is good for a Hollywood movie but where the hell are all the siege weapons, ladders or towers? Even if they killed every trojan solider in the front they would never had got by the gate.
@Balamutus300010 жыл бұрын
yes they would, once the trojan army was wiped they could dig into the walls with mining picks (or whatever tools they used in mines) creating breaches till the wall fell, soldiers would cover the workers with their shield idk if ancient greeks had any siege weapon at that time, AFAIK they did use siege towers, the "Trojan Horse" was very likely some sort of siege tower i suppose
@WeAreLegion190410 жыл бұрын
Radu Neceaev of course they had siege weapons. A ladder is a siege weapon and I hope the one with the pick axe was a joke. All you need is archers and oil. In reality and general would not attack the walls, he would starve them out for years before he even lost 10000 attacking it. The Greek army would lose morale if so many died in the fight and they would desert. It was very important to keep an army loyal in those days.
@Balamutus300010 жыл бұрын
HachiRoku i dont consider a ladder a siege *weapon* but i dont have anything against that, about the picks, i was sure i read somewhere about engineers who dig at the base of the wall with picks, and now that i took a quick look on wiki about it, there is indeed such a thing as sapping the walls, (yes with fucking PICK AXES!) if greeks were already that advanced to build siege towers i doubt they didnt know about diging tunnels under the enemy wall or diging the wall itself, /watch?v=X-E5J6LNUBU at 3:14, that's what the greeks would have probably done once/if they defeated the trojan army i suppose
@fallenknighttyler869510 жыл бұрын
If this war was as far back as its believed (around 1300-1000 BC) siege weapon weren't many around, if any at all. The oldest known siege tower dates back to 900 BC. Then they would also need the material, builders, and designs (like how tall it has to be and how many men to fit inside at once.

+Kaptin Fancy Hmm, that's why you cut off the city's supplies and starve it to death to force the defenders to surrender....
@Deukish8 жыл бұрын
+Komnenit That's always a risky strategy. Troy had several water sources coming into the city so they didn't have to worry about that. As for food, it would depend on who has the better supplies, the city of the attacking force, and the countryside can only be scoured for so long before you run out of food to gather.

The Lacedaemons, the Spartan people, have been around since early in the bronze age, plenty of time to fight the Trojan war. The classical Spartan city was founded around 900bc, plenty of time to develop the Phalanx. I'd imagine there was a city standing in Sparta's place before 900bc, but it was called something else.
@Halo4Lyf8 жыл бұрын
+Lukas K And we'll very likely never know who they were, since we only know they spoke an ancient form of Greek, and likely used Linear A as their writing. It' never been deciphered. The Spartans were a Doric-speaking people, so they would've settled Greece early in the Dark Ages, and very likely had next to nothing in common with whomever occupied the land prior to them. The Greek Dark Ages; Hell, the entire Bronze Age Collapse, are something of a mystery.

It is NOT Greeks vs. Trojans. Trojans were Greeks too. The correct title is Achaeans vs. Trojans with both tribal groups being of Greek ancestry, language, customs. Even if there was some foreign implication the side of Trojans (Homer mentions some non-Hellenic allies of Trojans from inner Minor Asia, still tribes such as Moesians and Phrygians who were tribally related to Greeks even if not considered technically Greeks) it was for the most a Greek Civil War for the control of the Aegean.

This might just be me, but fuck the honor system. If I were one of those footmen down in the battlefield, I'll find a opportunity while everyone is in a cluster fuck battle and take my bitch ass home, fuck that shit, I ain't dying for that king.

The Trojans could just defend their way to victory and then set the wooden horse on fire - turning the men inside into wicker men.

Those archers seemed to be very deadly.I thought Greeks rellied mostly on infantry-hoplites
@lostsaxon74788 жыл бұрын
Mostly. But it depends on the city state in question. Such as the Athenians heavy basis was on navy.

+jose rodriguez and what exactly are you picturing greeks as
@Deukish8 жыл бұрын
+jose rodriguez Hoplites didn't exist at this point, they were still a few hundred years off by best estimates.
@jos12438 жыл бұрын
Deukish thanks for the info so what would be the influence for the sudden change in greek tactics
@Deukish8 жыл бұрын
+jose rodriguez Well, assuming that the dates of the real war with Troy were real, the Greek dark ages occurred not very long after the war ended. After the dark ages ended and City-States began to rise again the assumption is they decided to adopt the hoplite method of warfare. One theory is that hoplites originated in Sparta, which where freshly settled by Dorian peoples (who were thought to have been a cause of the dark ages) so they could have just brought a new perspective to the Greeks leading to its development. Thats only a theory though, we don't know for sure where or why it started.
