Desertify Urbex: Abandoned Places

6 жыл бұрын

For July 4th and our latest exploration, I take you to an abandoned artillery bunker deep inside a swamp on a New England island. This fortification once protected the coast from Nazi subs with the largest set of guns ever mounted on such a location. Today it is a brooding presence on the island and features a 300-foot long tunnel and the many rooms branching off from it.
Don’t forget to Like and Subscribe to not miss our future explorations!
I am an Urban Explorer or "urbexer," photographer, and KZfaq creator with an academic background and passion for history, Cultural Anthropology, and English with a focus on Celtic Studies. I grew up in a creepy looking 1800s home that later became the abandoned "haunted house" of the town. In 2016 I made the decision to start photographing and capturing on video these abandoned locations that I explored until then as a hobby. My recent focus has been on once-great mansions, asylums, and lost places. Currently, I travel across the US, UK, and Ireland to allow you to experience these places through me. I hope you enjoy the journey as we shine a light upon these forgotten places.

Back in the early 90s me and my cousins would ride our bikes in there and shoot Roman candles. When we got older we used grandma's golf cart to drive thru the inside. I don't know if you can do that anymore.

It's a bit out of the way, but if you don't mind the swamp part not too hard to reach. I'd heard that there was an underground art installation there which might account for the lady. there were other paintings in the past like a headless man with a candle which are now defaced.

Damn, for a moment or two into this exploration it had all the makings of a rather sinister 'found footage' event. What a gem of a find, though. You really do your research when looking for such places. There's a few here in Ireland you'd love. There are some crazy vibes inside them; a real sense of some kind of malignant presence. I put it down to the fact they are built for one purpose: war. You get the same feeling in the ones built by the Nazis along the Atlantic coast. Mostly because you know those defenses were built with more or less slave labour in the form of captured POWs from the east. Many men died building them; and more died defending them. I remember camping inside one one time in France, near Bretagne, it was a rather small one - which at the time, after a long day walking the coastline - seemed cosy enough to stay for the night. Big mistake. That place was just emanating diabolical vibes once the sun set and the darkness crept up on me like a demonic shadow beast. It even dimmed the glow of my fire somewhat, like a strange black fog. I could hear all kinds of things going on around me that didn't make any rational sense. Footsteps, metal clicking as if someone was loading a rifle; and eerie lights within moving slowly round like strange orbs. No, I didn't run in fear. I was mesmerised. My curiosity for such experiences overwhelmed the desire to run in fear. I wanted to see more, and I did. I only got to sleep after watching the beautiful sunrise of that wild coastline. What a place. What an experience...

Here's a coastal fort in Ireland that is perfectly preserved, guns and all. It'll give you an idea of what this fort looked like during the war, without all that mess for graffiti. www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&biw=1366&bih=626&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=lCwdXdXXE8jzgAbqsIfADw&q=greys+point+fort&oq=greys+point+fort&gs_l=img.3...443667.446935..447137...0.0..0.118.1640.6j10......0....1..gws-wiz-img.......35i39j0j0i67j0i10j0i8i10i30j0i8i30j0i10i24j0i24j0i30.4XJoZdu3CzM

I can't believe you found that place, walking through a swamp on some laid out boards.....how scary! These places are always so dark and creepy and vandalized with graffiti, this one seems to just go on forever. You couldn't get me to go in one, so it's great you film these for us to enjoy. They feel like a horror movie in action when you are walking through them........shivers

Watching this video I feel like I’ve walked through Maine’s largest and least known underground graffiti museum. The light shining panning light reveals about provides a sort of alternative presentation method. Very nice. And the flooded room with the stalactites was uber creepy and mystical in its clandestine solitude hidden under tons of stone and concrete.
@DesertifyUrbex
@DesertifyUrbex 6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about that when making it. How the light could call out and focus on each piece. At one point this was in fact briefly an art display. With the high temperatures the bunker had dried out and I hear you can now access the large flooded room.

You just may be the one person I have been looking for.. for Years my friend. First of all I'd like to say Thanks for the video never knew anything about this place and have lived here for 38 years. I don't know what your into for doing things like this but would you perhaps be interested in Exploring what I believe is an Ancient Pyramid not too far from where I live here in Western Maine I came across it Years and Years back and have always thought of it. I won't go explore it alone, I'd like to go with around 6 people with plenty of gear. I've never seen anything ever about it ever mentioned or anything. I can explain more details about it privately. I will not give the location, the only way anyone gets that is if they went with me., Kinda obvious then lol. Anyway Thank You for Your time. And the Great video. Hope to hear back from you at some point. Take care friend.
