I’m almost 50, and I still hate going to the doc. I let my wife take the dogs into the vet. And, about the time they’re finishing up, I go in and “rescue” them. 👍 I did the same with our daughter. Was like “daddy to the rescue”. Works like a charm! 😃

My dog LOVED going to the vet and would get all excited a block away from the building. He loved the doctor and the staff he would get to see. He didn't care a bit about shots. It was like a great holiday for him to see his friends

Our big baby GS loved going too, but the Dr is AMAZING!! She gets on the floor and plays with her patients, uses a nice loud happy voice, she is the absolute best Vet I have ever met!!

Animals and humans are more alike then we will ever know. It's amazing how they know that they are going to the vet and get stressed out about it. That dog is acting like a human not wanting to get stuck with a needle... really amazes me.

I swear my dog knew that one day he might go there for the last time and 16 years later he did. I miss my baby Jet everyday. Dogs can sense things and they know and probable tell each other stuff.

My dog used to shake uncontrollably at the vet, so I kept him outside until they called us in. They are very sensitive souls, & pick up the fear from the other pet in the waiting room. ❤❤ I miss him every day.

Mine is the same and it is the smells as well. Also for ease of cleaning the floors are usually smooth cement etc. My dog felt as a puppy, very uneasy on floors like that and would not walk on them unless it was impossible to avoid.

Because they can smell the dead animals there... animals have a keen sense of smell... then add the fact they don't know why they are being man handled and getting jabbed with objects, they can tend to get bad socializes*?/feelings about going to the vet.

My 4 Shepherds don't mind going to their vet. They are treated well and given love by their veterinarian and staff. I go with them and they aren't scared. Love and Kindness Concurs All!

One of our dogs is VERY anxious about the vet or the groomer. If they give her treats, that wins her over. The other one goes willingly because she knows there will be treats. The first dog is an empath and the second is very transactional…as in she’ll do anything willingly if there are treats or food involved. 🤣❤️

My dog is very transactional and because she will do anything for food, she appears much smarter than she is…(though she is smart and learns quickly) But she is also a bit of an empath and if she knows the treats are just a bribe for something she doesn’t like, claw clipping for example, she will refuse even the things she loves the most and her eyes tell me she will not be hoodwinked. So I have to be crafty. When I ask her to do something… Sometimes she just gets a ‘good girl pat’ and no treat, sometimes she gets both. Sometimes, she gets her treats for nothing. That’s a surprise. Sometimes she gets a special hug for a few minutes as well as the treat so that she doesn’t associate being held with any treatment she hates involving being held for. Tricky isn’t it. She is only a very small dog and 10yrs old. Her hips are starting to give her the jip so to prevent her from getting worse I try to persuade her that jumping on and off the sofa is a bad idea. So I watch her and if she is going to get up then I give her a lift. But…believe it or not…that has been a test of wills. As I used to pick her up and hold her on my lap while sitting on the sofa to cut her claws, she thinks that if I am sitting there and try to lift her, that I must have evil intentions. To that end, when I started helping her up she was very wary and it has taken her a lot of time to get used to the idea that I am just helping her. I never involve treats etc. in this because it might backfire. The treats, when really needed, won’t be effective. Did I mention she really is smart. ☺️😉🫶

Actually, my German shepherd Dixie liked going to the vet. She was bigger than most German shepherds, even males, and she was very sweet, so her vet and vet technicians loved her and always made a big fuss over her whenever she showed up. And Dixie was a big attention hog. She loved all the hugs and petting she got at the vet's office. And her vet was very good with the shots and tests, so Dixie didn't mind those as long as she got the loving.

@@foader2756 It's funny, though, that Dixie liked going to the vet, but my next dog, Wolfie, hated it. But I think the staff was in transition in Wolfie's adult years, because I saw new faces every time I took Wolfie there, and my friend noticed it, too. She'd been taking her cats and dog to that vet, and I didn't know about it until she asked me for a recommendation for a new vet. I told her to go to mine, she said she'd been going there, but she didn't like it any more. So, yeah, I'd have to agree with you about the staff making a difference.

My dog would always know before we even got there. She would shake and whimper. She only did this on the way to the vet. We could take her anywhere else, and she'd be fine. We could even drive the same route to the vet and she'd be fine if we weren't actually going there. I don't know how she knew.

My dog is not doing the best and last night he had a rough night, I asked him to go for a walk and he stopped at the top of the stairs started shaking I think he thought we were going to vet, then we started walking down the street and he stopped shaking 🫨 lol 😆 I love him and it's sad to see him getting old (He's 15)

Does not need to be stressful like this. With proper conditioning from vet, staff and pet parent, visits/appts can be presented as a positive experience. Distraction during blood draws, injections, etc, should also be employed; we're finally beginning to see this with younger and newer Veterinarians and staff!

All I had to do was mention out vets name and my 2 German Shepherds knew where we were going and they would whine at the door cause they knew that they would see all of their friends (vet staff) and they would get tons of treats from all of the staff. Miss them so much.

Sometimes they have to, my sister had a cat with a compromised immune system but she would stay up all night cleaning her gorgeous fur. She was always exhausted which made her condition worse. Shaving solved all of that.

Hardest thing for us parents to do is taking our dogs to the vet, and they know the second you pull into the parking lot. They start crying…it breaks my heart. Then they either lighten up, or get pissy. Then when you get then home they give you the stink-eye, for an hour (minimum) that not even a treat will fix.

The first time I took my cat to the vet in NYC - I put her in her travel bag - AOK. After - now knowing what it meant, it was a big chore. Climbing on top of my head, not letting go and any attempts to fetch her off (she was a very small rescue) was to no avail. Even got myself "doused" by her "accident" lol.

Our dogs vet was amazing ! He could take blood samples , give shots and our pooches never even flinched or freak out they just loved him . He knew how to relax an animal,and use the needles for sure .
