Gee, we have been playing tunes on our inland rivers American steamboats since 1858 with steam whistles….it’s called a calliope! Glad to hear the idea is back!

Disney Cruise Line popularized the programmable horn as all of their ships have had them since Disney entered the cruise business in the late 1990s. Princess did not start until the Royal class of ships was introduced in the 2010s. I would assume the new Sun Princess and Star Princess will have them as well when they begin sailing in 2024 and 2025. MSC is apparently using their Long Range Acoustical Device - normally meant as a weapon to deter pirates - to play music on MSC Splendida. So far I haven't seen any evidence of use on other MSC cruise ships.

I’ve been on the Regal Princess twice at the British isles, and I thought it was exclusive to her but it’s almost if not all of their fleet. Can’t wait for Caribbean Princess this December!

When I went on a Princess cruise back in the 1990's, they actually played the recording of the theme song and not on their horns, but this is much more impressive. Broadcasting 1970's-80's TV theme shows on ship's speakers did not sound very good...
