Thats exactly how things go in real life for most DIY people. The only difference is you didn't throw your hammer into the woods..LMAO

The irony when you said it was a great feeling and you were glad that you managed to install the door "without cutting corners", when that is litterly exactly what you had to do to install it :P

You had the right attitude. I know it is frustrating, but doing it the right way will pay off in the end.

Yep, would rather take another half day than having long term problems down the road!

I started watching your videos from the start of the foundation concrete pier holes. I started to binge watch all your videos up to episode 43. Towards the end of your videos it showed your next video being the electric. Couldn't find that one though, I hope that wasn't the end of your uploads. If not I'm waiting for next download. Good job so far

Awesome! Thanks a lot! You’re correct, I’m teasing to the next episode which will be the electrical system, it’s not out yet and might take some time before I get to post that one. Thanks for watching it all though!

Funny how what should be a simple job can cause us the most frustration. We use plywood for flooring now, we used to use OSB but how easily it can swell is a nightmare. Even with high humidity it can swell causing doors to stick from pushing out frames just a few millimetres.
@TheDIYCabinGuy

It’s funny because I had originally bought plywood subfloor but then I realized it did not have any tongue and groove and everyone told me I needed that so I went back and got osb instead

I don’t understand why such a little gap is such an issue when you’re going to have siding butting up to the brick mould-- If the door operates smoothly just insulate it and the siding will cover the gap.

Just not great to have a gap there as air can leak and pest get in too. Just didn’t feel right to leave it like that

Doors aren't my strength. I understand. A friend of mine is so good at them and he has years of experience. I paid him a handsome amount last time I installed one to be the boss and tell me what to do. It was completely worth it. My door install skills are now adequate.

Sometimes it’s worth paying someone with the right skills but I also enjoy (to some extent) going through the challenges of figuring it out myself and acquiring new skills.

@@TheDIYCabinGuy I built a small cabin last year and learned quite a bit while I went along. The door was a pain point for me so when I installed a door in my house, having a pro guide me was great. I was super proud of learning how to install windows unsupervised. Thanks for taking us along on your cabin build! I have thoroughly enjoyed the series and it has inspired quite a few ideas of my own.

Eric, it’s definitely more expensive but it might be worth the piece of mind. The number of times I was wrestling with all the tarps to try and protect the cabin…and would still end up with the cabin getting soaked!
@ericjohnson624
@ericjohnson624 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s always a trade-off with cost. I think Advantech is probably 3x the cost of OSB which isn’t chickenfeed… but like you said, with your time, tarps, etc… might be worth it. I’m busy now drawing up plans for a guest bungalow we plan on building in WI starting next summer. A lot of my decision to do it myself was inspired by your channel.

Anyone watching..a door shouldnt be this tight in the opening. You need to level and plumb it still.
@TheDIYCabinGuy
@TheDIYCabinGuy Жыл бұрын
I still following the rough opening from the manufacturer, adding the sill guard and tape definitely made it tighter. Would you recommend making the rough opening even bigger than what the manufacturer calls out ?

First mistake you made was: you didn’t take the door out of the frame.
