The recent European elections yielded some significant gains for hard-right parties in a number of countries. Today, we'll be focusing on Germany, Italy, and France, and whether these shifts are game-changers or more political minutia.

No. It's a normalisation of various right-wing parties increasingly shifting further right, relying more on populist policies. Brexit and Trump started this trend. Centrist and left-wing parties call them the "far right" partly to appeal to voters, but also because it's becoming more true as time passes. RN (in France) have actually shifted away from their more extreme stuff, bucking the trend somewhat.

Can I ask you a genuine question? Do you honestly believe this, or just say it because you know that being hard right is unpalatable to most people? As an Anarchist I am well aware that I am harrrrd left. And that a moderate social democrat (at least from the perspective of a millennial) like Bernie Sanders or Jeremy Corbyn is viewed as left even though I view them as moderate centre left. Thatcherite/Reganite Neo-lberalism is the centre ground economically and social liberalism is the centre ground. Right wing is social conservatism and patriotism. Hard right is ethno nationalism, isolationist nativism, and oligarchic capitalism economically. Far right is nazism, racial supremacy and authoritarian dictatorship. These are fairly well established understandings, so I am genuinely curious (I am really not trying to trap you) are you ashamed of being hard right and of hard-right politics like the AFD and want to re-brand it? Or is it that something you say publicly, but are actually proud of being hard right? Or something else? I am aware being an anarchist and hard left is unpalatable to most people and am not ashamed of it and would not bother trying to make the argument that Anarchists are not hard left, but I do see some on the hard right trying to make that argument about the parties they support and I am always curious as to why

@@fndthousing I'm not interested in a long conversation, but since you seem genuinely interested, I'll take a quick stab at this. As a conservative, the vast majority of almost everyone I'm aware of who is right-of-center would fit your definition of right wing (which used to be center, as he stated) but this same group is lambasted constantly by leftist media and many on the left, generally, as hard-right or far-right (again, your definitions). I believe the media does so with the intent of achieving their desired political outcomes. Not many people would knowingly vote for the racist candidate. I know they exist, but I don't think I've ever met someone who is far-right.

The movement towards the right in Europe is not a flash in the pan. It is currently happening in Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal and is already in operation in Italy, Hungary and Austria. In the UK the current rise in popularity of Nigel Farage's Reform Party (not far right, more right of centre) indicates a disillusionment with the centrist, liberal consensus and globalist economics and a move towards right leaning, popularist movements.

@@lucabaki I don't think the CDU are very keen on sending more equipment and money to Ukraine, but the general consensus is that the Ukranian people must be helped some way or the other and that Putin's claim on Ukraine is illegitimate. Anyways. If the CDU comes back as the strongest party as you point out they will form a coalition with the Greens or SPD. It will not really consider the AFD, even though they would have the majority in the house. FDP I guess will have not enough seats to be really a choice that makes sense... sadly sound liberal values are not valued any more in Germany. Most are "against capitalism" or whatever... So voting CDU is basically voting for the Green party, which will anger a LOT of people, as the Green party is the root cause many are voting conservative CDU and AFD. If I were the CDU leadership in that case I would rather not do a coalition at all, if the AFD is really no possibility than to pick any of the hated current leading parties.

Mass immigration only serves elites (who own the politicians), as more population floats raw GDP and keeps modern Western Ponzi scheme economies going. But its the common man that suffers the consequences, such as higher crime, devaluing of wages, erosion of culture, inflation of housing costs, etc.

No. The hard right in Europe are openly racist, xenophobic and will introduce insular policies that contract European countries. To my eye, Peter’s “casual chaos” looks like that of an experienced and efficient traveller. When you pack that efficiently, it’s already organized: Peter had everything he needed and no more than he needed. Almost everything was already grouped into little bags of appropriate shape/size/durability. Loose items each had a specific compartment of the luggage for easy access, and he already knew exactly where to put them without requiring a moment for decision (conserving executive function, since travel can be exhausting/mess with sleep time). Items that were used or did not require immediate access were thrown into a main compartment to be dealt with later; and he automatically did so in a space-saving and organized way (e.g. rolling garments of an outfit together -also meant fewer wrinkles). The colorful bag included necessities and valued items; while the garment bag could be sacrificed to gate check-in if needed (gate check-in is the most likely time for bags/items to get stolen. The garment bag was also maximally useful in design while not looking so luxurious as to invite theft). No “regular” bag check-in meant time saved after landing. Last, the colorful bag had easy to remember color-coded compartments, would be annoyingly recognizable for any aspiring thief, and would add a little fun to a trip. Brilliant, really. 👍

These are fairly well-established understandings, so I am genuinely curious (I am really not trying to trap you) are you ashamed of being hard right and of hard-right politics like the AFD and want to re-brand it? Or is it that something you say publicly, but are actually proud of being hard right? Or something else? I am aware being an anarchist and hard left is unpalatable to most people and am not ashamed of it and would not bother trying to make the argument that Anarchists are not hard left, but I do see some on the hard right trying to make that argument about the parties they support and I am always curious as to why
