Written, produced and arranged by my friend, the late Bobby Eli. Vinnie Barrett was the co-writer. Major was a member of the Delfonics from 1971 to 1974. He was the lead on "Walk Right Up The Sun." BTW, the moans heard throughout the song were by the late Barbara Ingram, one third of the Sweethearts of Sigma, who sang background on many a Philly Soul hit, along with her partners, Carla Benson and the late Yvette Benton.

This is high level 70's lounge goodness! The fuzzy horns, the confident lounge singer delivery, moans of ecstasy...player, player! Seriously, this song is a time capsule, and I dig the "skankay" disco cheesiness. Great vid! 👍

Of course, Angela has a right to her opinion but I just don’t like it when she ACTS prudish. And it’s funny you cited 2024 standards bc in THIS century, R&B LEAVES NOTHING TO THE IMAGINATION. The male singers basically vocalize about annihilating a woman’s anatomy (and they too use women’s moaning). This is the 2nd time I’ve called Angela out for this double standard (remember she grew up with Chris Brown!).

This was when FM radio was overtaking AM stations playing music. The FM stations had less restrictions as to lyrics and length of songs. For example, few if any AM stations played the uncensored version of 'Love to Love Me Baby' by Donna Summer. The women moaning was in the record to appeal to men, it also was for shock value as prior to the early-mid 1970s AM radio stations would have never played a song like this with the"love making" sounds. When reviewing songs, the accepted cultural norms of the era in which the song was written, recorded and released must be taken into account.

This one is very sensual and sexual, obviously! It must have been a favorite request for a slow dance back in the 1970's! I hope you don't get too frazzled when you hear those female sounds in the background! Music is so magical isn't it? I'm surprised this kind of material didn't get censored back then, but that's the way it goes, we are all just babes in the woods I guess! But look at things like Only Fans and Tik Tok with all it's provocative content and countless other current fads! What a life and what a world, and the people in it make it even more confusing, weird, enigmatic and a plethora of other things! See you next time!

I didnt know that you didnt know that luther is the cover king. Luther was a great arrainger like donnie hathway, Aretha Franklin but he cover lots of songs line "House is not a home"(Dionne Warwick), creep (Stevie Wonder), If only for one night(temptations), bad boy (having a party) (Sam Cooke), If this world was mine (marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrel), Going out of my head ( little anthony and the imperials. Luther in my book is top five greatest male R&b Singers all time. My favorite is Marvin Gaye who is number one on my list but luther was a great singer he just covered a lot of songs. As far as the moaning that did this a lot in the seventies. Listen to marvin gaye's "you sure love to Ball' off of his "let's Get it" on Album. Marvin gaye's song was dedicated to a seventeen year old who eventually became his second Wife Janis Gaye. He was seventeen years older than her but his first wife was seventeen years older than him. Berry Gordys older sister Anna Gordy. You should read Janis Gaye's book "After the Dance" which was named after a song. MARVIN gaye written about Janis Hunter who became his second wife Janis Gaye! Great book. Or david ritz "Divided Soul" about marvin Gaye! Both on Kindle and both great books! See marvin played multiple instruments and in the seventies he sang all his background vocals on his albums so he's number one to me plus he wrote or co wrote all of his classic songs of the seventies and the greatest album of all time in my opinon "whats going on"

You had to be there when the song dropped. It was groundbreaking, and one of the 70s R&B monster ballads like Lenny Williams ' Cause I Love You and Billy Paul's Me & Mrs. Jones. Probably closer to Sexy Mama by the Moments. Luther has some exemplary covers but his remake of this song isn't one of them.

Well, you need to understand the time frame of the song! In 1974 sex was still very private and society in many ways view it as a women's duty and to have babies not for her fulfillment so in this way the song is way out in front of the times! Today when you cannot watch a add or listen to a song without sex plastered on the TV or radio! Just keep it in perspective!!Another great song! Love your show!!

@@mofun5315 I now understand that she meant Luther Vandross but his cover was just that-a cover and not any better than this original although I agree with "Day One" that Major Harris or his producer did not need to include the silly heavy female breathing. Looking at all the male singers from the 1950's to date including Elvis, Chuck Berry, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Tommy Edwards, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Gene Pitney, Brook Benton, the Righteous Brothers and many many more, while Luther was good, IMHO, he was not the GOAT.
