If you find my video's informative, useful and slightly amusing and you'd like to buy me a coffee, you can here www.buymeacoff... and me and my family will be very grateful for your kindness.
In this video we examine why major scales are so incredibly important to learn, what the reasons are behind that. I rant a bit as I am a scales evangelist, I mention my plant, my bookshelf offers some thoughts too and I also mention:
Dorian minors: • Dorian minor scales fo...
Modes: • Modes for saxophone
Major scales: • Understanding major sc...
And Harmonic minors: • Harmonic minors scales...

Well done Lyndon. You’ve got the knack of putting things across in a readily understandable way. I’ve known about major scales since the age of 16 but your explanation of their uses makes it still interesting and exciting after all these years. Am 74 today and still learning!

Lynden. Your videos and approach are outstanding…I’m also self taught. Was in band (trumpet) in 7-9th grade), but then picked up saxophone on my own and learned it and played it over the last 30 years from law school to joining the Navy. My approach has been just to play what I enjoy. My cheat, instead of learning scales, was to learn songs in different keys…however, finding that wasn’t really that helpful for music theory…So, now, putting the nose to the grindstone at aged 54 and learning all my scales. Your videos are making the journey fun…

I think it's important to know them (and the modes) by ear as well as intellectually. My pet hate is books with "all the scales in all the keys". If someone knows the pattern (TTSTTTS), they can play all the major scales without having to resort to the dots.

Ahh…so, the major scales are to music theory as the Mark VI is to saxophones…the thing everything is compared to…

Another great presentation. Does practicing 2 scales per month sound reasonable ? I have been trying to do min 15 min scale practice before I practice 5 times per week . Is there a logical order of scales to practice ?
@lyndenblades
@lyndenblades 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! That does sound reasonable and I’d suggest learning the major scales in the order of the cycle of fifths clockwise, so C first, the G, D, A etc. Does that make sense? 🤝🤝🎷🎷😎😎
