I love mine. I have had it a for a few years now and I love how low maintenance and versatile they are. It’s fun too, to add very affordable upgrades. I got it because it can come with us with our travel trailer. Or, hopefully in the future, on an Alaska bush plane. So versatile. Also fits fully assembled strapped into the bed of my Toyota Tacoma, for faster and easier frequent use. If you don’t have a 5 or 6hp outboard for it, start saving and searching now.

I mounted my rod holders to the seat bench. Also made a plywood front plate with anchor trolley. I am looking at changing it to a bow trolling motor mount.

I will have to do a vid on my Porta-Bote mods one day, I have a 12' boat with an 8hp 2 stroke Suzuki DT8 on the back. I upgraded the bow plate as the plastic one was ridiculously flimsy, I made mine with marine ply so I could put a bow roller at the front. I added 2 SS grommets next to the ones at the front so I could add handles and tie down the bow plate properly. At the rear I stiffened the transom by adding a removable adjustable arm to the rear bench seat, this stiffened it up substantially, the only other big thing I am considering is a bimini cover for the sun. My big issue is I don't really know how to fish, I have been watching your videos but we have different fish here in Brisbane, Australia. This summer I endeavour to catch and eat a fish or crab like you do.

Love it! Find some local guys to watch for fishing advice. I'd reccomend looking for kayak and inflatable anglers since they have similar ranges as the portabote. Pretty much every species requires different techniques, but you'll figure it out. Time on the water is the best teacher. Tight lines 🎣

New 2010 eight footer I used it pretty hard, but never really had a leak at the transom. My method was mushroom head bolt. Metal Washer rubber washer to fit the washer inside large pan washer self locking nut this work for me great. Boat sit out behind my boat with motor some weight in it never had more than 2 inches from last seat to the transom. Plastic bucket took it right away. Someone smashed it up forwards bow cracked it 6 inches down. Cut quarter inch plastic 10 inches 10 inches formed a V molded then bolted it on using 5600 never had a problem. Down in the duck keys 9/6/23 bad weather came Boat was gone. Call Coast Guard reported issue I was on the golf side. They had a report three hours later the boat was seen Atlantic side. I guess it wanted a European vacation. I buy again great Boat.

I put rubber grommets on my transom bolts from the hardware store, no leaks

If you have sufficient water that you need a bilge pump, you have a significant leak. Most of the water in my PB is overspray and is dealt with by having a sponge sitting on bottom under the motor. One or two squeezes, done! Simple, cheap, easily replaceable.

I actually get some waves crashing into the boat from time to time. Once or twice, the bow has scooped up 2-3 gallons when hitting a big wave head on. I fixed my bolt leaks, but keep a manual bilge pump on board for those purposes.

That’s an awesome little slip. Kind of defeats the problem that Porte botes address, but I get it. I like to keep mine setup and drive around with it like that in the back of my Toyota Tacoma just because setting it up is such a pain and time consuming. Keep that foot in the door and you can always get a good little aluminum boat whenever the transom gives out in your PB. Although those are harder to come by with the price of aluminum and shrinkflation. With the margins being so slim, those are the models that manufacturers first ditch.

We can get small aluminum and larger boats for free around this area (I'm in the same area as Kenny). I pass on them all the time because most of us don't have space to store a ridged hull boat.

Thanks for the support! It is a 200L cargo bag from Ironman 4x4. I think most 200L bags would work. It's a bit torn up now, but still has a few seasons left in it. Try not to pick it up by the straps since that will accelerate tearing. Overall pretty good quality, and I'll probably pick up another one next time they are on sale. The link is in the description!

I weigh 275 and just got a 14 foot porta bote. I plan to use it in the Delaware bay and harbor. Do you think I need to consider sitting up a row away from the transom/motor? Im concerned I will push the boat deeper into the water and not have much distance between the top of the boat (where the motor sits) and the water line. I don’t want to take in water.

You probably won't take in water, but you will sit a little lower. A big wake, or some waves could crest the stern. Im about 250 lbs in most of my videos from 2023, so you should be ok. I also have a 12 foot, so the 14 displaces a bit more water. Just make sure to distribute some weight to the front.

Me again. I just ordered a new Suzuki 6 HP. My sticker inside the boat says 56 lbs is the max weight for motor and the Suzuki weighs 52 lbs. Do you think that will be okay for my 10’. Oh and the year of my Bote is 2013. I really appreciate your channel and answering my questions!

@chuckzander9861 well the only real way to know is to try, but I think you should be fine. My motor weighs about the same, but on a 12 foot. Just try and balance the weight by putting other gear in the bow.
