In a normal draft, Dallas Turner would go top 10. We got not 1, but 2 top ten picks for what amounts to loose change in the couch cushions. JJ-Mac could be our QB1 for the next 20+ years, and DT will be our next 100+ sack Defensemen.

Yes, me too I think it was perfect the way it fell. I was not feeling the give up 3 1st Rnd picks. And look at what we got out of it, great take for QB and top tier Edge. Fantastic! Drake Maye is going to be great for the Pats, best of luck in the new era without grumpy.. 😂😂

Look folks this is how i see it 1. The Vikings got JJ for what equates to a bag of chips and some dry dog food. They didn't sell the farm and kept the 23 2. I think all Vikings fans can agree that whenever we have an opportunity to give Shean Payton a massive middle finger. Forcing him to take Nix. Im all for it folks.

Oh, man that is a tough one! I’m not sure that verbally describing the situation as an open competition is the way to go. They are all professionals and I think that every NFL player knows that if they perform and give the team the best chance to win then they are going to play. I also believe that verbally giving the nod to Sam Darnold would take a lot of pressure off of JJ thus allowing him to focus on his development, and quite frankly starting QB’s before they are ready is the biggest reason that a QB doesn’t have success. The GreenBay QB development model of sitting QB’s has proven to be successful, and teams say they want to do that, but then coaches & GM’s get on the hot seat and rush the QB’s onto the field!

I don’t think that most people were worried that the Jets were going to draft JJ because they just signed Tyrol Taylor to a 2 years deal worth up to 18 million to back up Aaron Rodgers, and that represents a fairly large investment in a backup QB. If they drafted JJ they would have had to carry 3 well paid QB’s on the active roster. The huge and only threat was the Broncos at #12, the Raiders at #13, the Saints at #14, the Seahawks @ #16, and the LA Rams @ #19, jumping them and grabbing JJ. I don’t think that I would describe Lewis Cine as a dog! A better description might be “Bust”.

The whole JJ being thrilled with the Vikings drafting JJ instead of Penix doesn’t necessarily hold water because the QB with the best down the field passing acumen was Michael Penix! The questions surrounding Penix were mostly injury related and those issues probably didn’t provide any concerns for JJ. All JJ cares about is having a QB who can throw deep with accuracy and the Vikings winning, because those two things keep him relevant and make him a lot of money!

That is pretty accurate. I also think Sam Darnold has some fire in him as the 2nd overall pick in the draft a few years back, and could be that guy. Also, I have been preaching this all off season no one wants to hear it, trade JJ Jets.. take Brandon auke 48rs or Tee Higgins from Bengals, pay less in cap space then for JJ, roll into next year with top 5 free Cap space money and fill holes in the team in free agency.. it's a smart move IMO

Hello vikings fans, i have a question for you ! It's been 7 years now since i've started to watch the NFL. I'm from Belgium so i had to understand the rules by myself (most of the times). This past month i heard a lot of things about the vikings drafting this or this player, moving to the top 4,... My question is : The team has a few minutes to pick a player during the draft, so if there's a trade during these few minutes, how is it done ? Why do the vikings felt the need to move up to pick at 10 in exchange of draft picks ? The jets informed them that (maybe) the raiders proposed some picks in exchange of their 10 and so if they want they can propose one more to select at 10 or is it just some "panic" move to make sure no one picks JJ before they do and they have no informations that a team will do ? Thanks for your answers and sorry for my english (i try my best).

It was done to prevent another team that needed a quarterback like Denver Broncos from making that trade, Vikings probably felt that JJ McMarthy was more suited for the Viking's offence than Bo Nix would have been. During the draft it is common to see several teams draft the same position and teams get worried that there may not be any decent players left at that position they need to fill by the time it is there turn to draft. You can see this was a QB run early on in the first round, there was also a small run on DTs and CBs in the 2nd round of the draft. Also look at what positions each team needs to fill. The Jets really needed an OT, the Vikings had no need to draft an OT so early, so the trade allowed the Jets to get the player they wanted plus an extra pick or 2. The Raiders really needed a good OT, so if the Jets had traded with them there was a good chance the Raiders would have taken the player that the Jets wanted. the Broncos need a QB or an OT, if the Jets had traded spots with the Broncos the Jets could have possibly lost the player they really wanted. So trading with the Vikings was the best/safest option for them. This also meant that the Raiders or Broncos would have had to offer a lot more than Vikings did, since the Jets would have risked losing a player they wanted if either of those trades had been made.

My opinion McCarthy was the best overall QB in this draft. The others seem overly cocky. Mentality matters so much. Especially when it comes to progression. 👌 A+ MN Darnold prob won't see the field much.

Let him sit for a while and learn... green bay has the blueprint for franchise quarterbacks.. and we should not throw him right into the fire 🔥 it's ruined so many players if you rush it 90 percent of the time it's not going to work.. I am not saying he's not good enough to do it.. he is but it's in everyone's best interest to coach him up.. train him right and he will be our franchise quarterback..
