One cool thing is if a DeathWatch member survives and chooses to retire their watch, they keep their Left arm as a trophy when they return to their chapter, and it’s seen as a huge Medal of Honor.

Aren't the Death Watch more or less the Reasonable Marines? They wear mostly black, meaning they don't stand out, they make use of more advanced technology, which they are constantly upgrading and improving, even using some xeno tech and their tactics and battle doctrine is constantly improving to be more efficient at slaughtering that isn't human.

Imagine how dysfunctional a killteam must be. The Blood Angel is in his corner of the camp cutting himself. The Imperial Fist is digging a trench in his corner. The Dark Angel is just guarding his journal. The Black Templar is constantly polishing his sword, and tapping his feet due to adhd boredom. And the Ultramarine is just standing in the middle like "why cant you be normal"

One the fun story plots they have are Black-Shield Marines, marines that have removed their original chapter heraldry and serve the death watch to redeem themselves from a past mistake without shaming their chapter, but it's also hinted that there's loyalist survivors of the traitor legions also serving as these Black-Shields. Love the Death Watch, I'm currently building an army of them with an attached Imperial Guard/Inquisition force.

Here is my head canon of how Deathwatch came to be. The war of the beast was just a drug trip of a Lord Inquisitor. After rehab he became utterly paranoid of xeno so he set up deathwatch so that he can sleep again peacefully. Every space marine chapter agreed to this idea as a excuse to get rid of their most obnoxious members.

Weren’t they first introduced in Dan Abnett’s Eisenhorn novel Xenos. Keep in mind that book was the only reason why I heard of DeathWatch. The captain in the first Eisenhorn book was quite hilarious

The rpg is what introduced me to the deathwatch, it’s basically the same lore.

The Deathwatch was always a favorite of mine. It combined ideals, upgraded tech and tact, and strove to fight together as a single unit, rather then 5 or 6 random marines fighting with but not alongside eachother. I am actually working on a Deathwatch campaign, and need to develop a command squad for the PCs to get missions from.

The second Deathwatch book got me back into 40k for a while.

Looking forward to the new Codex. May they get the rest of the Phobos Marines already.

Basically it sets killing xeno as the default but leaves open the possibility of not killing if a great prize may be won later. It satisfies the hard core xenophobics while not completely boxing you into one set strategy. Great quote 👍 Edit: letter replacement and added a couple words.

DW also has an aspect of the French Foreign Legion to them as in, an astartes can come to the DW base and request audience and admittance, no questions asked. they only need to have an interview with the DW astartes in charge, which is confidential, and if the commander says yes that is it. and it doesn't matter much their past or legion/chapter of origin

Man-portable frag cannons normally only mounted on Blood Angel dreadnoughts, heavy bolter with underslung heavy flamer, C'tan phase swor- *ahem* Xenophase blade to cut through eldar bullshit, Power fist with underslung melta gun, Stasis bombs, Cryo grenades, 4 different types of special bolter rounds made to kill various xenos, and their watchmasters wield guardian spears, normally only available to the Adeptus Custodes.

Apnetron I’m making back stories for different marines who come from different chapters. I was JUST thinking about a Dreadnaught named Apnetron. Apnetron loves grinding filthy Xenos into the dirt, but once the battle field is clear, he gets very drowsy. If his battle Brother’s don’t get him into stasis soon enough, wacky shenanigans ensue. One time, he shut down next to a supply depot being dismantled to be moved to the next campaign. The servitors were tasked with dismantling all the heavy equipment to be stored in transport containers. The most puzzling thing was…how did servitors have the schematics for an Emperor-Blessed Dreadnaught? Apnetron went missing, and a rushed, full-scale investigation was executed. Unfortunately, no clues were found before embarking to the next campaign. The next battle was already ongoing by the time Apnetron’s Company made landfall, so they took up a rearguard position to ascertain the situation and coordinate efforts before engaging themselves. Unbeknownst to them, the gene-stealer cult that paved the way for this Hive Fleet vanguard force had constructed an elaborate underground network of tunnels and railways that had an exit right in the middle of the Deathwatch’s supply depot. Almost as soon as the servitors began unpacking, the first wave of ‘Nids burst out of the Supply Depot…just AFTER somebody found Apnetron’s Sarcophagus…still in stasis waiting for more Xenos to wake him. Which they did. Not only is he filled with rage over his nap being interacted by filthy Xenos…but he is FURIOUS that he can’t do anything because some mindles servitors stashed his body in unmarked crates. Your mission is to suppress the Nids long enough to find the rest of Apnetron and put him back together. Success conditions include finding all of Apnetron’s body and reassembling him. Success activates the next mission: Waking up on the wrong side of the Nid. In this mission, Apnetron is on a rampage fighting with whatever weapons of his you found in the previous mission. You can continue opening crates to find his are Wargear, as Apnetron randomly stomps toward the nearest Nid unit firing, cursing, and doing his level best to stomp them into the ground in melee. ***** My buddy gifted me a small Deathwatch army over a year ago…I finally got around to painting them: my first Warhammer Miniatures ever. The first night, I primed six of them, and began painting two of them. I started around 8pm. The next time I looked at the clock, which I thought was a couple hours later…5am. 😂 I now have a full appreciation of my buddy’s assessment of “plastic crack.” I wrapped up a couple hours later finishing one and mostly finishing the other. In the space of a week, I’ve spent over $1,000 on paints, equipment, Source Books, and kits. My buddy had already assembled the ones he gave me, but I’m a sucker for punishment, and a b!tch for detail. I wanted to learn the whole process from start to finish. I also spent hours researching all the pieces to figure out which weapons each model had. 😂 Anyhow, I’ve binged about 20 of your videos in between the 30 hours of painting vids I guzzled before I cracked open my first paint bottle, so thanks for breaking up the monotony, mate.
