Deciding to hang the bike in the shop is more about a change in priorities and lifestyle than just a place to put the bike. I thought my mountain biking days were over until I took a short ride on my son Michael’s new bike about three years ago. Since then I’ve been riding consistently even in the winter months. Having a bike here in the shop is a constant reminder to take a break and go for a ride.
This bicycle rack is made with Sepele Wood and attached to the wall with two 3 inch screws.

It’s a shame (For me anyway) that we don’t live closer. I would pay just to watch you work while I’m rehabbing me knee. Everything you do is art, the knowledge one could gain by spending time with you & watching you work would be invaluable in my opinion.

Big upgrade! Maybe this will be the inspiration I need to finally get our bikes off the floor. That gained space would be so useful.

Stoked to see this project, Jon! Funny how lots of us have had an awakening the past year or so--Covid induced or not--and hit the reset button on our life priorities. I too have dusted off my mountain bike and hit the trail...after machining a couple repair parts! In the lat 80s or early 90s I heard ski movie icon, Warren Miller, say, "Getting old is hip and groovy because everyone is doing it!" Those words always make me smile. All the best, Andrew @BranchAndFoundry

Nice, quick project~! Although we have a Peloton, building a couple of these would be a good reason to knock the dust off of the mountain bikes and get outside more. And you're right, gotta "change gears" as the A.G.E. disease progresses. ;-) Thanks for the video~!

Doesn’t sawdust stick to the oiled parts of the bike if you keep it in your workshop?

No problem if you use dry lube for your chain and most important saw dust is nor a problem if you use the bike every day 😎

That is an ideal solution for people whom live in an apartment and have no storage space for their bikes. But It sure looks "interesting" hanging in a wood working space

I make the same bracket all the time I noticed on your 45 support you screwed from the outside in leaving what I consider an unsightly whole how come you don’t screw from the backside and then from the top down so people see the 45 support cleanly with no holes

don't let people hate on the single fork - think about a plane's landing gear. much heavier than a bike... just saying!

Odd place to hang a bike. Especially when the tires are all dirty. But, to each his own.

It's good practice that if after a ride you see mud or grit anywhere, the bike needs/has to be cleaned. I'm not on about it looking in showroom condition, it's about extending the life of the moving parts. A real benefit of such a discipline is that it enables the rider to look for any misalignments or possible faults while he/she's at it. 👍

@@JonPetersArtHome I thought/knew you would, you like to do things right.😉 BTW, taking up riding for fitness & well-being is the way to go. The bike is a one-time expense & keeps on giving. For super fast weight loss (if anyone's interested), do interval training, in other words, go flat out for 30 seconds, then coast for 3 minutes, do it 4 times & you're done. Repeat 3 times/week & you'll be amazed how quickly the extra baggage goes away. On the other days, you can do leisure rides which are eye-opening. I was staggered at how much I never saw when commuting in the car. Pro tip: If you can, pick times of the day when traffic is minimal. 👍

Pretty but your poor bike chain is going to get clogged with sawdust as the chain oil is a dust and dirt magnet.
