My favourite version is one I made with my italian mother. I labelled the butterfly "farfalle", the student as "San Remo", and the quote to "Is this a Bow Tie?" Farfalle is the pasta named after its butterfly-like shape, but southern parts of Italy use "cravatta a farfalla" or "butterfly shaped tie". ... and as such Farfalle have been renamed as Bowties by some pasta brands. And thus concludes an over-explained iteration of this meme: ""Is this a Bow Tie?"

I appreciate all of Pachy's reviews starting with a news headline, it's a cute touch. Also the second Crash Man was definitely not intentional, considering one of them explodes in one lemon if they're both still in the water segment and onscreen together.

Okay, as the creator of Glitched Up Beta, now that I’m watching this, to Flashman, actually…the ‘fighting Sonic Man on dry land’ bit was actually *Not* intended! I actually don’t know how to apply water physics at the time, and I’ll be honest, I actually might make things worse, now if I design a new level or remake this one. @ACESpark, if so, I’m a poor artist. Overall, I’m actually more of a fan of the RPG Mega Man games than the platformers, so that’s probably why I don’t have a good idea about stage design. Besides, I didn’t get last place, that’s a win in my book! Although, my main worry when I submitted the level was ‘did I make the tokens hidden in a jerkish manner?’

I sort of get why Ace's comic might be seen as insensitive, but as someone with both learning disabilities and several mental illnesses I *do* find it pretty funny.

So, the devkit has an object called "boss barrier" which will delete any solid collision it overlaps with if there's no bosses left alive in the room. I'm guessing that CrashMan Simulator placed that over the floor to have it get deleted when the dual Crashes blow up, but Flash Man is also a boss and thus keeps the floor intact until he also explodes.

Yep thats exactly it, its also why most rooms have at least some sort of corridor with boss barriers, the engine needs them so it can tell apart 2 rooms that both have bosses

It's worth mentioning that the actual game build contains a LOT of fixes for various things that the judges will mention. A lot of softlock potential was removed, issues with the music player were fixed and SOME audio balancing seemed to be fixed (not all of it, though), a lot of unstable levels were made more stable, and lag was significantly reduced. So you almost certainly weren't going to come across that music issue in You Don't Know The Drill.

1:16 Yep, that works. I tested it myself, and cleared the level in under 50 seconds. 4:00 Well, Pachy said there was an enforcement mechanism in place, but it doesn't work. I think Pachy was also saying the mechanism wasn't properly implemented. 14:49 I dunno if you eventually noticed, but the judge portraits in the upper right (especially for Mick, Shinryu, and Pachy) have changed between reviews. This one actually depicts Shinryu with a similar "scratching his head" pose as the skeleton.

I think it's been mentioned a few times about the portrait, problem is all of this first tier has been done already so if Roahm has noticed this, we might not see him acknowledge it in the video for a bit.

Honestly, for 'You don't know the drill', I can't get the image out of my head of Crash Man and Guts Man acting like an old married couple on a 50's TV sitcom. Now I need to see Crash Man in a business suit and Guts Man in a era appropriate pink apron.

13:00 The meme comes from the anime "The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird", where a character, Yutaro, thinks he can pass as human despite being an alien android. He immediately proves this to be false when he confuses a butterfly with a pigeon. Apparently the origin is from a Tumblr post deriding bad translation, which is ironic considering that the translation was good since the *point* is that he doesn't actually know.

Ok, you probably can't expect a "good" level at any point in Tier 1, but these three levels already seem to be vastly better than that X6 meme in that you don't need any pixel-perfect jumps to clear them.

I think the only real hint that the fake floor is there at the end of You Don't Know The Drill is that the purple tiles are taken from that one Wily level with the fake floors. Didn't stop me from falling for it though :/

I had the same experience with the hidden tokens in You Don't Know The Drill. Doot de doo, sliding through the beginning of the level and oh okay I guess we're going down a ladder now

Yeah, I think the joke with this comic is that Flash Man is weak to Crash Bomb and now having to deal with two Crash Men poor flash robot has lost a few marbles.

I think what Patchy meant with her comment on the Crash Man level is that you could also beat the level by just ignoring the Crash Men, walking to the end, explode Flash Man and then come back to deal with the Crash Men. Just a different way of breaking the level compared to what the other judges did.

For the record, I'm fairly sure that the team fixed a few minor glitches in the stages that didn't change anything visible within the level, so that's probably why the stage's music didn't fail to load up; I know there's later stages where bugs and jank were too deeply caked in to be removed but not bad enough to disqualify the level, and that warrants one of the criteria for the Skip Teleports as you'll see later on

Seeing the comments about the Clash/Crash name discrepancy: my headcannon for that level is that one of the bosses is Crash Man from MM2 NES, and the other one is a colorized Clash Man from MMII GB. The "Crash Man and his flagrantly accidental doppelganger" line of my judge review was originally something to the effect of "Crash Man and... uh... Clash Man?", which was changed after it confused one of my proofreaders who was unfamiliar with the GB game. So there's your absolutely useless piece of trivia for the day.

About Crash Man's spelling, it's a similar situation as with Dr. Light, where Japanese media consistently spells their names as Clash and Right, while international media consistently spells them as Crash and Light. Considering Tadashi Hikari (meaning "Right Light") in Battle Network, it's possible Capcom considers both sets of spellings as valid.

Yeah, many issues the judges mention were fixed so as to not make players experience bad. Some unfixable stuff was left as is and (for the most part) you will be warned about it whether by a sign or by an NPC in the Skip Room.

I'm not going to lie. After the mess that was X6meme, the three levels here are just a blur to me. CrashMan Simulator: You and I both. I jumped to the conclusion that the developer of the stage managed to test the level properly and made it so that the floor fell apart after beating either of the two Crash Men. However, Flash Man was not as fortunate, so I just went and dealt with him myself. Glitched up Beta: The only thing that I recall of this level is the barrage of 0s at the start and maybe the Giant Met hat. Next. You Don't Know the Drill: I could not for the life of me find where the tokens were until I read the guides. Also, I really dislike that the only tell to the exit at the start was a pipe that has a arrow thing next to it. Also I don't think I've experienced the music issue either. All in all, better than X6meme (Update on that, I managed to clear that level legit and I'm going on to clear each level with a Skip Teleporter.), but only because I don't need to skip them.

It comes across as insensitive about issues such as self-harm and speech impediments. It's more of an insult to the creator than an actual criticism of the stage.

I feel like You Don't Know the Drill's concept might have been better executed if it had the two designers arguing over what theme the level should have, with the look/gimmicks changing back and forth (think "Pink!" "Blue!" from Sleeping Beauty) until they combined toward the end in a way that complemented both styles and suitably increased the level's difficulty.

Regarding the Crash/Clash Man thing, it's probably never going to be answered. Japanese has no R/L distinction ("Japanese has no L" is actually a misconception), so "Crash" and "Clash" would be pronounced the same way, and unless they are fluent in English, the developers probably wouldn't know the difference. For what it's worth, Japanese sources do seem to prefer "Clash Man" when writing in Latin text.

Yeah...um...the invisible ladder thing in You Don't Know the Drill? That really bothered me when I found out, not gonna lie. The only reason I caught those ladders on my playthrough is because I was sliding a lot...and I was afraid of possibly seeing future invisible ladders like that afterwards. Yikes. By the way, I have to say that it's cool seeing things running again on the megamans! I hope this series goes well! (I just found out about these videos today)

10:18 - 10:52 - I never got to that level of mathematics in high school, personally. I had taken the standard level of it(Whatever it's called) and both Pre-Algebra and Algebra. I'm pretty good with numbers, although I find that my main strength is counting in sets.

I think the joke with AceSpark’s Comic with Crash Men and Flash Man might be a subtle nod to the fact that Flash Man is weak to the Crash Bomb, and thus started malfunctioning because of the fact that he had to deal with twice the amount of Crash Bombs. Btw, I personally call him Crash Man and not Clash Man simply because I think Crash Man is based on a missile, and missiles have to CRASH into something to detonate their payload, hence Crash Man and not Clash Man.

Am I the only one that liked the token placement in the Drill stage? I found it interesting (I have no problems redoing a level again and again in search of one if the level isn't way too hard) and there's even an item that can hint at where they are.

Also regarding Flash Man counting towards destruction of the floor... I think the best option would be to just remove him? All he really does is make the stage even more annoying by freezing you with Time Stop. He has no real purpose to actually be there, aside from making the final fight even more unreasonable without just cheesing it. And regarding Glitched Up Beta, I think an interesting idea to have would be to either add more characters that each have different gimmicks (maybe base them on hexadecimal digits?) or I don't know, borrow gimmicks from Sheep Man stage - that also is themed after a virtual reality.

on crash man's name: its seems to be dependent on the game version. its still clash man in Japanese versions of games, including things like smash ultimate. the English versions of the same media call him crash man. bubble lead is also pronounced like leader. this is confirmed by things like super adventure rockman, where that's the pronunciation that the voice actor went with. aside from that, there's the fact its the first ground crawler weapon, and can "lead" you around traps. which it does in the fortress, if you don't remember where the pits are. that last bit also applies to search snake, though there's a lack of obstacles for you to use it on...

Crash Man Simulator had a neat idea, I know that escorting Poison Mushrooms in Mario Maker is a thing but having it done with robot masters amused me. That said, the visuals and substance are lacking. I also like orange. Glitched Up Beta certainly had distinctive visuals, but even watching it was a bit dull. A shame the concept wasn't capitalized on, having the mets shoot a jumbled mess of graphics would have been hilarious. I also was terrified by math once they added letters and told me it made shapes. You Don't Know the Drill was largely carried by the charm of Crash and Guts Man DMing each other, as well as some fun new colors for enemies. Didn't seem to have a cohesive vision for the stage, however, and it shows. I also am sad at the lack of mugshots now that I know they were a thing the contestants had access to.

One more thing you might wanna sort out... Your current playlist for this LP seems to be out of sequence; it places the opening & casino sections after the X6Meme level & review. You may want to correct that in the future lest anyone who watches it starts in Tier 1 instead of the main hub.

When the submissions for this were still open, I was tinkering with a stage that had no traditional solid ground, just gimmick platforms like Air Tikis, Foot Holders, Guts Lifts, Yoku Blocks, Bright Man See-Saws, Sheep Blocks, Cracking Ice etc. I couldn't get it done by deadline due to work and lack of ideas on how to make the concept not suck. I did plan on every challenge having a breather platform [probably a MM3 Yoku or Drill Man Switch platform.

The first level had some interesting ideas with luring the Crash Men, but the way the gimmick works just made it feel... uhh... just there... & I'll repeat, what's the deal with Flash Man just being there? The second... exists I guess? Besides the binary code 'glitch' gimmick & Sonic Man (who was oddly absent in MAGMML 2...), it too just felt... kinda there... The third level... yeah, any attempt at the humour kinda fell flat... the execution is just as important as the setup!

I actually think the disguised ladders would have been fine if the fake boss hallway the second one was in hadn't been littered with text boxes because, quite frankly, I don't know about you, but I tend to slide through boss hallways and that would result in finding it the way Roahm did, but the text boxes basically discourage if not out right prevent this natural way discovery. Edit: I forgot there is an option to have a shortcut button to slide instead of down + jump, which could be the level dev's fault for not taking that into account, and even may still be based on past MaGMML games (at least I think they also had this option) in spite of the possibility that its probably something they didnt know was in/going to be in the game. Though I'm also probably being geneous here and this metbod working at all is probably just a happy accident.

10:53 "It makes more sense to me when the numbers are applied to something solid." I was like that too when I first learned about division. For years, whenever I had to solve a division problem, for example: 12/3, I would always visualize it as 'I have 12 cookies, and I need to give them to 3 people; how many cookies will each person get?'. While I don't need to do that now, it was definitely helpful when I was still learning. I don't have much to say about these levels, except that I also found the hidden tokens in "You Don't Know the Drill" because I use down to jump to slide. I would say that I'm glad, except the fake floor before the last one made it so I had to replay the level anyway. Thankfully the level is rather short, so going back for the token wasn't too much trouble.

It's interesting that with one exception, levels start with better scores than the last contest, even if it isn't super high still. Anyways, as for the levels... -CrashMan Simulator: Yeah, I did it "legit" the first time, found out from the judge comments for the cheese strat. I haven't tried it, but I feel you could also just go to where FlashMan is and just defeat him, then go back to the CrashMans. The idea's there, it might've worked if FlashMan wasn't there. -Glitched up Beta: I KNOW I've heard the song somewhere, and I still can't tell to this day... there's not very much to this level unfortunately, though an editor could have a field day with those Green Screens :) Without the Casino upgrades, remember to look left! At least the 1s being floor and the 0s being spikes made sense. -You Don't Know the Drill: Level's a bit of a mess, did have a bit of a chuckle with the dialogue boxes, but it doesn't add much to the level. And not noticing the tiling made it I went through the stage multiple times, finally reading the judge commentaries and finding out the off tiles. It's a bit annoying, if only I was using Down+Jump instead of the slide button 😢

To be fair the scoring rubric for this game goes from 0-100, instead of 0-50. For a more accurate comparison, halve all MaGMML3 scores.

As far as Crash vs Clash, goes, one of the things I learned in my study of Korean is that their letter for R or L is the same letter, pronounced halfway between them. I assume Japanese is similar, leading to the confusion. You could translate that letter either way and it would be correct in the original language

Here is an idea i have for a megaman fan game that i came up with that is called megaman and The mega Crystals, the plot of the game is that Dr. Light gets taken hostage by Splashwoman who is pissed at him for being stuck in the sewer area in Magmmal 2, and megaman has to find and deliver 8 crystals from 8 Different guardians, after that you go through a 4 Castle stages where at the end of it you fight the 8 Guardians again who are trying to reclaim the crystals because of the power they have when gsthered in one spot, after defeatingthem a second time you enter the finalteleporter and enter the chamber whare splash woman is waiting, there is dialogue Exchangebetween Megaman and splashwoman, and then they fight, the fight is basically like in megaman 9, but then in phase 2 splashwomanuses the crystals to become gigantic and phase 2 begins, the fight is essentially the same as the final boss from Shantae and the seven sirens. (im not good at making custom robot masters and game design in general so im giving this idea to whoever game designer that is watching this to maybe creste this game)

I didn't check to see if anyone else said this, but our minds actually aren't naturally-wired to understand mathematics, so it's pretty common to be intimidated by it. There's no shame in that at all!

CrashMan Simulator have its problem in both intended and unintended way, and I found them not pleasant enough. Players requiring to guide Crash Men out from their chamber sounds decent, but what I felt on my actual play is the tedium mixed with a bit of annoyance. That method feels like a parent bringing their children out of the shopping mall, minus the fancy things that drags the attention of the kids. On top of that, Flash Man's existence just adds more tedium to the process by stopping the time occasionally. That's the story when we just try it legitimate way though. After reading the judge comments, I entered back to see if that works, only to find out it really did. This is a whole lot easier process, but the fact that it just removes all the features this level has is just... futile, to say straightforwardly. I think I liked Glitched up Beta at the very first glance with 0 and 1 thing, but that swiftly gotten away with the repetitive screens, screens of basically nothing much. It really lacks enemies(only some Metalls) and gimmicks, and there's Sonic Man in fake water room. When the level doesn't convey anything worth to say, I can't exactly say much either. first things first, that wasn't the good way to hide the ladder. Sure it had some sort of indicator, but if that was the case, that should've been more clear with, say... a bit different but distinguishable color scheme, at least. I do like some of the text boxes in You Don't Know the Drill too. Though I couldn't like it more when the level just served more text boxes instead of the actual level. Just like Glitched up Beta, this was an empty level that doesn't give much impressive things, aside from those dialogues. If there was anything provided afterwards, my opinion would've been shifted upwards.

Well, Crash Man Simulator was a decent idea wrapped up with poor execution and faulty programming. I can see the potential in a stage like that but it probably needed a single crash man and some actually threatening hazards. Flash man probably just should have been removed along with the token. Also of course make the floor actually die if you can’t guide the crash man. Glitched up beta…feels astoundingly bland for a glitched up level; IMO that’s its biggest sin. Otherwise, it’s just too basic, even outside of not doing enough with the glitches. You don’t know the drill just…doesn’t have an identity to me. It should! But there’s too many levels down here with invisible ladders and trying to be funny without succeeding for it to stand out.
