I get so sick of people telling others that they need a $5000 laser to burn leather. Lots of great info here. Ventilation is king when burning leather. Especially chrome tan. Vaporizing that shit will kill you and your dog.

Nice video. Have you ever tried Kraft-Tex Paper for prototyping? It is fairly inexpensive and burns really nice (paper with a bit of latex (no Chlorine)) and it feels a bit like leather.

Great tip! I never heard of Kraft-Tex until this post. I've used it to add thickness to thin leather; as the card slots of a bi-fold wallet; and as the inside wallet of a larger bag/purse. Will start experimenting with using it for inexpensive vegan leather products.

so my .pdf patterns cant get converted correctly to srv for laser cutting?

I suppose it depends on the pattern, but they have never worked perfectly for me. Some take a little tweaking, some are useless.

Thanks I had bought some from Michael’s and after I checked it it was 2.2mm thick which I was able to use it but I’m using a 10w laser and I felt like I had to slow it down and got more char and soot so the thinner will definitely work better.
