i have seen many hydroponic systems that do not even utilize a pump, so it would be most efficient to set a timer for this system.

Roots wont reach the water while off and spend hours drying

If you’re not running the pump, then you have to run an air stone deepwater culture. The only way to keep this system working properly is to run it. 24 hours. Whether it’s an air pump or water pump something’s gotta be running 24 hours a day. Unless you could figure out how to turn this into a vertical Ebben flow?
@robroy289Ай бұрын
Seems like if you can set up the reserviors correctly, getting a siphon effect going could be continously feeding without using a pump.

Do you publish the drawings so the rest of us could replicate the idea? I have a fire academy for kids. They would kive to do something like this.

Food grade pipe? If so please share resource. Thank you.

@@mariajjenkins Most often whenever the PVC acronym is mentioned, the use of uPVC as the material type is implicated and understood less otherwise stated. Unplasticized PVC is acceptable for ANSI and NSF 61 certification for its use in handling potable, drinkable water. Other common PVC use design certifications include ASTM D1785, D2241, D2729, D3034 and AWWA C900/909. These various design approvals and manufacturing standards for polyvinyl chloride approve the polymer for its use within the many modern application scenarios that PVC is now commonly used within.

Also pvc safe for potable water is safe for hydroponics. The glue is not safe when wet. Care must be taken to not have glue touching water surfaces when wet.

Something you should be concerned about is that you are using ABS which contains BPA & Phthalates which leaches out over time and eventually will be consumed by you. You should be using PVC but be sure to check that it also does not contain BPA and Phthalates. Everyone should look these up before you build this tower.
@modernhomesteadfarmАй бұрын
It's actually cpvc and not abs

And the 3D printed parts are pla which is made from beetroots
@evlsc400 Жыл бұрын
I personally would've sourced a free 5 Gal. Bucket, made 3" holes on the outside for pool noodles to hold my seedlings and then run a solar powered water pump inside to run the water up and around the roots. 3D printing takes up a lot of power and the plastic waste. you could easily attach caster wheels to a bucket at the bottom and stack all of these into a tower that uses the sun to power it self.

3D printing is most commonly done with a PLA filament made from cornstarch, idk if that’s what he used but that’s what I use, while it does take a long time to biodegrade I only use it on items I think will last me a long time such as this and it still degrades faster than plastic parts which would be used for net cups, buckets and other such accessories

Probably a 10w pump (guessing) 744 hours in a 31 day month Would use 7.4kw if you ran it constantly. So like less than $1.50 depending on where you live.
