So... as a programmer i now demand a set for "make games without arting!"
@fleexie
@fleexie 6 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't that just be downloading assets (art based) from store and smack into your scene? As this kit is basically just pre coded scripts. Btw I do get the joke of your comment.
@RoySchl
@RoySchl 6 жыл бұрын
Well if i would take my own joke seriously, i would say it's a whole lot of procedural generation, but one could call that an art itself. downloading assets would still mean i need art from somewhere, even though somebody else did it. But yeah that would be pretty much what they do here with code.

Unity I think overall is for teams that already can code, as for 3 days, I"ve been trying hard to just get a character to run around screen, even using John Lemon ( kinda ridiculous but hey it was worth trying andlearn more about coding), but not even that worked, after all that time spent on it. Unity is ridiculous, UE4 is VASTLY superior, given unrealengine at least does NOT require to BUY EVERYTHING just to get a character moving around. Im SO sick of unity--I could have taken all that time and gotten something wonderful done, WITH the more than adequate, included characted UE4 GIVES YOU, right off the bat. Unity just wants all your money, to hell with them!

I think this is more either a great collection of assets, or a good collection of scripts that you can use if, for example, you do not want to create enemy's AI or something like that, and i am sure that you can get pretty far with this. But the title may be misleading, because this is a kit, this is not an entire Unity feature. And programming is definitely one of the best things that you can learn! If you enjoy it of course, but even if you do not, it is never bad to learn. So, happy learning :D

Hey In-N-Out did you learn to make games in Java from scratch by using the LWJGL? Or libgdx? It is awesome that you learned that way! In regard to why would Brackeys do this. I cannot be sure about this, but i guess that this was requested by Unity, or maybe he would have made this video anyway, who knows. But it is not exactly something bad since many developers, designers and artists could get a lot from this kit, it is good to know that it is there for us. Also, it is very probable that a beginner would get quickly tired by the limitations of the kit and either start learning programming or 3D art : D

These game kits (both 2D and 3D) are fine but they are really complicated. It is not the kind of thing that you can download and read a few scripts and understand how they work. Sure it is super easy to begin making your own levels but that is because all the work is done already. You could create a game from this but it would be all of Unity's code and art with your level design. Don't get me wrong, these kits look great but I think Unity needs to take it down a few notches. Given their complexity, it is difficult to truly gain anything from them.
@JasonEllingsworth
@JasonEllingsworth Жыл бұрын
You are missing the point here. The kit wasn't to make an entire game without coding. The kit is so you can grab bits, implement them in YOUR game, and learn possibly something new from them.

So glad this exists I still have plans to make my own 3d platformer in the style of crash bandicoot possibly starring a meerkat character, this will come in very useful as it includes a lot of assets pre built which will save a lot of time and because it’s pretty easy to make a large area I’m use it is very possible to make a massive open world with branching paths and lots of possibilities for exploration

@a1r592

IServeladik I It's not useless if you want to give people a small introduction into game development. You don't want to bombard them with everything right from the start. This is made with the idea in mind that people get interested. Sure it's not the most accurate representation of development but that's not the point. 😉

I can code in C# but I haven't used Unity before, and I have no idea how to just start programming straight onto it. Having something like this should be useful as it will show me, at least to some extent, how to use the software and produce something. Even if that just means dragging and dropping pre-made objects with different functions and movements, just that alone should help me a lot before I start to modify things and add my own things in. It isn't useless.

I don't like the fact that they are simplifying gamedev with this kit and making it without code. First of all it makes the experience that programmers acquired over the years equal to some newbie who just started, plus the democratisation of gamedev makes it non-special. If anyone can make it then it's not special anymore!!
@P0Omah
@P0Omah 6 жыл бұрын
thejames000000007 Mate don't worry. The games made by this kit will all be bare bones and identical. If you can program you can write your own code and add mechanics to make your game stand out.
