Great vid, Vital is amazing thanks for showing us it. On the off chance you or someone see this, I am stuck at the part about automation. I assume that is the Audio Effects Rack, but not sure which effects those are or how they relate to automation. Basically I got lost around 6:45, spent about 4 hours trying to figure out what you did. What effects are those and how do I do the automation, by hand or is there some magic trick? Working on learning production, figured I spent 12 years mixing and always was intimidated by it, but this is some neat stuff. I decided my first concerted effort at a track will be a Dune's Sardaukar psy trance/electro house hybrid.

I think I may need to do a video on automation in Ableton. In this video I had already made the automation before I made the video so that it would be faster. I never actually went over how to set up automation in Ableton in this video.

You skipped kind of silently over fm -> Osc 3. What oscillator is modulating oscillator 3?

FM synthesis is using another oscillator to modulate the frequency of that oscillator It stands for frequency modulation synthesis In other words, it's just another way to modulate frequency and make it sound a little different. Once you get the idea and understand the how and why you can experiment and create some amazing sounds.

awesome tutorial i Just have a question at 7:00 you play with the pitch wheel and LFO 1 sample in the corner of your screen but in mine that area is just blank? How did you get that on your screen?

The down arrow next to the on and off button on top of the plug-in opens this window. But personally I like to do it a better way. I enable automation up at the top in ableton. Then I go back into the plugin and click the feature that I want to mess with, And the automation will pop up in the arrangement view where I draw my automation in. And then it'll appear in that plugin window down at the bottom This helps if a plugin has a lot of options cuz you'll see every single option that that plugin has to automate. And looking at it like that is kind of a mess.

In vital, you'll have to map whatever it is you're trying to automate to one of the macros. Then automate that in ableton

In vital in the LFO box. It will say tempo.
