This quickly went off the rails in terms of being a crafty art project, but I still dig the results.
I referenced the following books about modern Gothic culture:
Gothic: Dark Gamour by Valerie Steele and Jennifer Park
Goth: The Design, Art, and Fashion of a Dark Subculture by Chris Roberts, Howell Livingstone, and Emma Baxter-Wright
And
The Art of Darkness: The History of Goth by John Robb

The effect of the pages under the organza is so cool, has so many different looks from different distances

The latin on the scroll on the painting in the book reads 'Ora pro (it's abbreviated) nobis beata Mag[cut off, but presumably a name]'. That's a common phrase in devotional art and imagery. It means 'pray for us o blessed [insert name of saint here]'. The saint depicted is Mary Magdalene, I think. She's typically depicted either carrying a jar or completely covered in hair, and this portrait gives you a bit of both with the Mary Magdalene in the front holding the jar and the one in the background covered in hair. The figure praying might be an image of the commissioner of the painting.

This did feel like an art project, in the best possible way

It’s interesting how some pieces are so much better with an explanation of the intent behind the art (modern art usually works this way for me) and your gown is like that but is also nice to look at on its own. Thank you for this lesson on the gothic and the behind the scenes of your creation.

I like the research you did and how the result is not at all obvious. the garment you created may be a little eccentric but certainly very wearable on many occasions. (but I'm from near Venice and maybe we have slightly different fashion habits, but I think it would get a lot of appreciation here)

Oooo I love the process of making this! The research, where you pulled inspiration and the thoughtfulness behind decaying pieces and the idea of "unfinished." really fun (and inspiring) watch!

I love how you blend styles between eras. It's truly inspiring to me. I usually keep to the confines of one era and even push some of the comfort and wearability into the unwearable historical realm. That's why your channel fascinates me because you go completely the other way.

I went from punk to goth in the mid eighties. I loved exploring and enjoying how different it was from the mainstream. Now I'm called an elder goth.
