My Granny was born 1907. She used stayman winesaps, sugar and no spices to make apple butter. My grandpa cooked it outside in a large, tin lined brass kettle over a wood fire. I had many of granny's cat head biscuits made with raw milk and slathered with apple or pear butter. Man were they good!

When I was a kid my Mom and nextdoor neighbor made apple butter in a huge castiron kettle over an open fire they put clean silver coins in the bottom to keep it from scorching. If I remember correctly they used Wolf River apples. Best apple butter I have ever eaten.

My sisters and I get together every fall and make ours in a kettle outside. We use a kettle that belonged to my great grandmother. We made apple butter this way since we were little kids with our mother and grandmother. We love getting together n doing it together. It brings back a lot of good memories. I may try this stove method too. It looks like it would make really good apple butter too

Push the lever down to bring the shaft back to the front. Way faster than cranking it backwards. Thanks for the video. I’m making a batch tomorrow. 😊

We made apple butter when I was a young’un. We also made blackberry jelly, my favorite. I did make a few times when my kids were little (in the 80’s). Enjoy your videos and am so blessed to watch Christian people.

We had a big copper kettle set on top of two cinder blocks. Making apple butter was a two-day job. Peel and slice one day, cook them the next. Had to stir the apples constantly for several hours. The stirrer had a handle about 6 feet long with a paddle about 20 inches at right angles. We added only cinnamon and sugar. Lot of work but the result was worth it.

I have a peeler and crank sieve like you used. Haven't made apple butter in a few years but I have made kind of an apple pie filling that my wife uses in some kind of crock pot apple dessert. I have a copper pot that fits on the stove but use stainless steel. They say the copper gives it a different color and taste but I don't think copper is good in an acidic food. Anyway good video, now I remember how to do it, we usually don't get apples until sept-oct but they probably have early ones now.
