Is it worth it?? That will depend who you ask. The cost of pretty much everything, including used furniture, has gone up so much in recent years that it's making more quality pieces unattainable for a LOT of folks. At least temporarily. Is it junk though? To me, if it functions properly, regardless of what it's made of, it's not junk.
But this one is REALLY cheap, and needs some basic repairs.
If you're on a super tight budget but still want things that look nice, you can find pieces like this very inexpensively in thrift stores, or even free on FB Marketplace. Most still have some years left in them, and I'm all for keeping stuff out of a landfill. Hopefully you can find some that don't have big chunks missing, but in this video, I want to show you how you can fix them as easily as possible.
These aren't the kind of flips to really make much money on, when you consider cost and time spent versus sale price... but if you need some inexpensive furniture that is readily available, this might be a good option. These pieces are also great for trying out new techniques on.
I'm using Fusion Mineral Paint here, but really, you can use any paint you can get your hands on. Instead of epoxy, you can use a regular glue. I used my impact driver and my SurfPrep here to save myself some time, but all of this can be done by hand without these power tools. You'll pretty much NEED to have a couple of spring clamps to do repairs like I'm doing here, but they are literally a few dollars each at discount stores, and can be used for years on many projects.

This might sound funny, but I found this to be such a respectful, encouraging video. You are so respectful of those of us who don’t have a lot of money but still want to live with pretty things. This is a perfect, beginner friendly tutorial for those of us who’d like to try salvaging something even though we don’t have fancy tools or multiple products. This is why you’re my favorite Angie!

What a cute little piece, and this video is a great reminder that something doesn't have to be solid wood or expensive to be useful and pretty. This little cabinet still has a little life left in her and I'm sure that whomever ends up with her will be thrilled. Thanks for showing us that just about anything can be saved.

This is what I do a lot of. I choose pieces that won’t be high end but when I am finished they are clean, serviceable and hopefully, fun. I love that you reused the staples, because a heavy-duty staple gun can be pricey, and if we're keeping to the budget idea, that's a great tip. Also the love you gave to the legs. My brother is a custom cabinetmaker, and whenever there's a piece in the trash with really nice, wooden or metal legs, he's trained the whole family to run out and grab them, because they often are the only things worth salvaging and can make lots of other pieces look terrific.

@@TranscendFurnitureGallery Hey I just wanted to chime in that my daughter has a cat that looks a lot like your Nacho, with the same beautiful reddish marbling in his coat! Would you believe his name is also Nacho? I got his sister, Punkin and she inherited the fetching trick from their mom, while Nacho didn’t. How funny is that? If I could send you a picture of them I would just so you could see how similar they look. 😁 With any luck I’ll be prepared to tackle a couple of my wooden furniture projects when it warms up here. I have only one dresser from my grandmother’s set that I inherited, which needs some TLC, but I was afraid to do anything with it until now. I’m really loving your videos and learning so much. There’s another KZfaq channel where the artist would redo pieces that others would just throw away because they looked so bad. She would fix them up then donate them to kids who had aged out of foster care and were needing to set up their own homes. Another KZfaq artist fixes her pieces up and donates them to charity to be resold for a higher amount than they would otherwise get. I think all of you are an inspiration because you show how a little paint and lots of elbow grease bring about great results. Thank you for sharing your talents! And I love Nacho. There are times in our lives - just starting to live on your own, job loss, divorce, retirement - where you have to pinch pennies. @@TranscendFurnitureGallery it's time the people who caused this mess solve it. Everything is incredibly inflated. I was incredibly lucky to be able to afford a condo. It's grubby and needs a ton of painting, but the owner left a bunch of tools and some awesome mid century pieces. I'm working on three projects now to have them finished before moving.

Just wanted to say thank you for understanding what it means by using things you have around the house. I think I actually appreciate (almost) more when pieces that look as bad as this one, get a huge upgrade. You make them better than they were new, and that is really exciting! But then... having seen so much of what you are capable of, I have to say that so many of the pieces you put your hands to are just completely stunning. Lucky furniture that ends up in your hands, Angie!! I can't believe how satisfying it is to watch you work. You bring such love, as well as expertise to the the table. (...and the desks, and the bureaus, and the sideboards, and the...). But, yeah... I just LOVE it when something that is NOT quality is given a new lease on life. That's a gift.

I really love your calm, no nonsense demeanor as you explain all of the details to your process. As someone who worked as a furniture refinisher I appreciate you showing how to save pieces from ending up in landfills. It breaks my heart to see so many things go into the trash compactor on garbage day. We used bond to fill on occasion, but the embedded nails is something we never considered to prevent the filler from breaking away. I imagine small dowels or splints would do the same thing. The geometric pattern on the inside of the back really added to the finished piece. Job well done!

That is terrific and very inspirational, because these are exactly the kind of pieces you're likely to find in charity shops or Freegle when you don't live in a wealthy area. No-one around me is throwing out solid wooden sideboards or mid-century coffee tables 😄 But knowing how to redecorate something made of chipboard and veneer could help furnish a home, or repurpose something from one room to another. You mentioned before that you sometimes get grief for doing a project on veneered furniture, and I'm so glad you ignore people who do that. You're the best!
