The dark finish with the Odies oil product looks very interesting. It looks a bit like the Japanese burnt wood look but maybe less invasive and still allowing you at a layer date to refinish the piece to your preference. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I still have my Lane “hope” chest from my 1980 high school graduation. It’s nothing special to look at like yours!!!! It could def use a little freshen up for sure! I recently learned that you should not store quilts in them as the cedar can stain the fabric.

There are all different styles. The two I have a problem with are not like that. One has the plastic thing but you have to take out the bottom of the drawer to get the broken one out! I may even have to take the entire drawer apart. I think what they really want is for you to throw it away. The other one has a wooded guide on the drawer that looks very sturdy. Actually overly so. The thing it slide on is very flimsey. They don't look broken actually. I am not sure why they don't work. That will take further investigation.

I love the look you got with the wash, sanding it was the right choice. That way you can see some characters. It's stunning now and the casters are a lovely touch and fill of fancy.

Used to work at a hotel. We had ozone machines to deodorize rooms people had smoked in, worked really well.
