If my video helped you or saved you money, please consider donating to my channel using the Super THANKS button found just below this video. Each donation goes towards tools, project supplies, parts, and production value. Big or small, every bit helps!!! This is my self made oil catch can system for my 2013 Ford F-150 FX4 3.5 Ecoboost truck. The catch cans are simple Chinese made units available on eBay and Amazon and come in various colors. I chose blue due to my truck color Blue Flame. You will need a one way valve also available on eBay linked above as well as about 7 or so feet of 1/2 ID hose. I would suggest fitting the hose and checking routing BEFORE you make any cuts.

Love this video. Makes so much sense. I'm thinking I might get a 3 port can and eliminate that input that goes into the manifold with the FR plug. I can acquire vacuum from the turbo inlet pipe on the drivers side, and hook both valve cover ports to the input of the can and not need a check valve.

Thank for this video. I've been wanting to do this for a while but thought the cost was absolutely ridiculous! I did this exact set up today on my 2011 F150 3.5 EB for total cost right at $100 for all parts. I just had my engine chemically cleaned and I also changed my sparkplugs. It should help it run better, get better gas mileage, and prolong it's overall lifespan. Thanks again!

BOSSC351's Productions would it be possible to replicate this setup but with using a 3 port single catch can? hello sir, great video by the way.. something you might consider doing as well is putting long strand steel wool inside the cans. In my experience with my last catch can, it was not catching nearly all the oil when the can was hollow. I filled it with steel wool and it made a huge difference. The wool gives the vapors a media to cling to and then drop out of suspension. Won't cost you 3 bucks and I think it will help you like it did me.

I have fitted two catch cans to my 2012 F150 3.5 Eco boost in front of my radiator for easy access. The passenger side gets water and sludge but no detectable oil. The driver side gets nothing over a four week period. Would you consider this correct. Really would appreciate your input......Ron C

My thinking is, if locating in the front as your showing, getting the oil 'out' won't be nearly as easy? I see some add them close to the battery location, at least on the 2016 model years. As you say, low is better...but too low is going to make emptying it difficult. I'll have to get out there and really look my engine bay over and find the most efficient location....or check out KZfaq, as a better location may have already been located for all I know. @BOSSC351sProductions
@BOSSC351sProductions 5 жыл бұрын
Yes. You are pulling a vacuum on the crankcase on the drivers side through the valve cover into your fresh air inlet tube to recycle vapors. This also pulls moisture as well as oil vapor into that tube. You want to catch as much of both as possible so it does not go through your turbo and into your intercooler where it will puddle. Both of my cans are near full in 2 weeks here because of the cold and rain we have had.

Maybe a dumb question: why a check valve? Original Ford PCV lines have none. So what if it blows a little oil back under highest boost pressures.
@BOSSC351sProductions
@BOSSC351sProductions 4 жыл бұрын
You do not want to pressurize the hoses and catch cans. If you do you must clamp all the lines plus you risk blowing captured material back into the engine with sudden boost pressure.
@2wrdr
@2wrdr 4 жыл бұрын
Do you need on way valves on a normally aspirated engine?
@BOSSC351sProductions
@BOSSC351sProductions 4 жыл бұрын
I do not believe you do on N/A engines. The one way valve is to prevent boost pressure from the turbochargers from pressurizing the catch can system. When the turbos spool up the engine switches from a vacuum to being pressurized. On N/A engines there is no pressurization. The degree of vacuum changes when the throttle blade angle changes but pressure is not introduced.

I’m curious to know how these have held up. I installed the same set up on my 21 Ecoboost F150. After only 200 miles i got a check engine light for crank case pressure sensor fault. The passenger side can was completely full. I emptied it but the CEL keeps coming on for the same issue. Have you had any of these issues?
@hientruong4074
@hientruong4074 2 жыл бұрын
It’s probably a vacuum leak. Had the same issue on my 19 F150 with the 2.7L after 100 miles. I pulled out all the fittings and used Teflon tape on them. Another thing is the dipstick, it’s not fully sealed and will leak. I used Teflon tape on that and it fixed my issue.

@BOSSC351sProductions
@BOSSC351sProductions 4 жыл бұрын
You do not want or need the breather. The system must be sealed or you will get a Check Engine Light. Yes, you can add steel wool or similar to the can as an antislosh solution but it will be quite messy to change and clean.

@BOSSC351sProductions
@BOSSC351sProductions 4 жыл бұрын
@@joeydelmarsjr.646 No but my brother tried it on his 2015 and the CEL came on. Speculating, I would thing you would want it sealed because it is air re-circulation. Otherwise you would be sucking air in from the filter at some point and not getting flow to deposit the oil and crud and also not pulling crankcase vacuum removing gasses. This would increase sludge deposits and turn the oil acidic from lack of moisture removal.

The one way valve is at the port that directly enters the intake. During boost it closes preventing pressure from building in the lines and can. When my engine was 100% stock you can see in the video what they catch. Without cans it goes into your intercooler and on the passenger side it goes right into the intake. With stage 3 turbos from CR Performance it is now mandatory I have not only 2 cans but I have had to upgrade to large ones with braided hoses. We are still testing and watching however after the full engine rebuild with the increase in boost and blowby, the engine was blowing my oil out into the intercooler before I installed a drivers side can. I have caught it twice now where it was 4 quarts low from this. Once while regular driving with occasional hard acceleration and then again while towing my RV but at a highly accelerated rate due to the constant load. I since added the second can. After adding the can, it filled the can with oil and began overflowing again into the intercooler. We have come up with a new solution being tested that adds additional venting to reduce the blowby turbulence trying to leave the engine at once and hopefully stopping the oil from being blown out of the engine. If successful I will be posting a video on it.

@@BOSSC351sProductions Thanks for the reply, im just a slow driver that dont really push my 2.7L 2016 F150 very hard and there is very little oil. I was trying to decide if it was worth it to do the other side for probably a fraction if anything of what im seeing on the passenger side catch can.
