Last week in my video showing my first turning project I showed you a Pen Press I made to press the parts of a turned pen together. I asked if you wanted to see a Pen Press How to video and the overall response was yes. So here you go.

Man you are a real artist. I love most of your tutorials Back in the day I used exclusively a radial Arm saw for all my cabinet making and I had made jigs for all my shaping heads and multiple back of fence jigs. I wish I still had them around. Thanks for sharing Albert

Michael, thats why i made two parts so the videos would be shorter. I have worked 15 hours on editing this down as much as it could go, any less it would loose important details and the ones wanting to build this would miss out on the steps i cut out. Since I don't have plans to go with my videos, all i can do is over information and detail. viewers know they can fast forward through any parts they don't want to watch. I appreciate your comment and feedback. I strive to do the best i can.

Trevor, if I new how to use sketch up or draw plans, I probably would do that. However, since I don't the best way for me to relay the information is in the videos. My schedule is too full and tight and I have no time to sit and try to draw a design. much less time to learn how to draw one.. When in reality i can build the project in less time then it would take to draw it. some people appreciate the detail, others fast forward past it. either way, the information and instruction is there.

Non-woodworking questions: what video equipment do you use? What editing software do you use? Keep up the great work, just subscribed. Too busy screen printing to take on woodworking but still cool to watch.

Not at all.. There is room for movement.. but with the pieces (parts) being so small in size the movement is so minimal there will be no effect.

I use a canon Vixia HF R20 camera and Sony Vegas Pro 12 to edit.. I hope this helps!

I like a lot of your projects, but I do agree with Michael in that they seem to be too long. Going over piece by piece with demensions? Why not do a cut list with demensions in description or do a sketch up?

Hi Laney, I was wondering, why didn't you use a router to make the slot? Why a drill press? Would it have been possible to make the slot and recess using a router? I hadn't watched this video when it came out because I don't turn pens, but watched it now and it was fascinating to learn how you made the moving and sliding parts. Did you design it from scratch yourself? How do you know so much stuff?? :-)

hey try sketchup ! its free and sooooo cool, and easy ! now every good woodworker makes project plans with this nifty tool. i have one tip for you ! always use components, you will know it, when you get in trouble with this programm :D

I love your videos, but I wish they were a little shorter, or that there were at least shorter versions. Your viewership would likely increase too.

Nope. One of our expert woodturners made one; and it's not worked well, often chipping off the end. Worth the $60 to buy a pen press.

I've watched several of your video's and I think they're great, however you fail in one part of your presentation. Safety. When you use the table saw, you use ear protection, BUT, you don't use any eye protection. How long does it take to slip on a pair of glasses or goggles. A word about safety procedures should be foremost in every video where power tools are used. Other than that, keep up the good work.
