Ben great video but when working with mdf use a better respirator even if you’re working outside. You really do not want to breathe that stuff in.

Love your videos. Thank you for sharing with us. 🔥😍 What type of wood do you use for your projects?

Hi, thank you very much. For wood it depends on what I am building and the look I am after. Most common its between MDF and sanded plywood. MDF has a cleaner smooth look like the animals in this video. No knots or wood grain. But is slightly heavier than plywood, not as strong and you need to wear a mask when cutting as it can be harmful to the lungs when cutting. Sanded plywood is great for strength and weight but has wood grain visible and some have knots. Which can take more paint and primer to make sure to cover up. And Almost all of my builds are with 1/2 inch or thinner plywood. As anything thicker I rarely use because it gets too heavy to transport. Good luck!

Looks amazing! I'm doing a circus for my Halloween theme this year and this helps a lot!!! If I seal the MDF do you think these could stay outside?

Hi, thanks for watching. If it is out side I would suggest Wood instead. MDF will soak up water a lot more than plywood. And definitely seal the wood, especially the side's of the plywood. This will help keep some of the water from penetrating. Paint also helps with sealing the sides as well. Good luck!

Hi I just found your videos and cant stop watching. What are basic tools I can invest in to do cuts like this?
@MakerDecor
@MakerDecor 2 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks so much for watching. To do cuts like these and make signs. A basic scroll saw with a thin blade will do the trick. It doesn't have to be an expensive one they all do the same, but the more expensive ones will allow for thinner cuts and smaller lettering. But I have a basic one and have been able to do a lot with it. I eventually want to upgrade but for now a basic scroll saw does great. So I would suggest a scroll saw, ear, eye protective. A face mask for dust as well. A sander or just sand paper will work to even out any mistakes and make smooth. Its pretty easy, just go slow and practice following lines. If you have any other questions please let me know. Thanks!

Just came across your page….. been watching your videos… what’s the difference between scroll saw and jig saw. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
@MakerDecor
@MakerDecor 2 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. The scroll saw is not shown in this video but It has a thinner blade on a machine that is supported on both ends that allows for more precise cuts and turns. It is the best for making signs, letters, etc. The jigsaw is a hand held blade that is more for rough cuts but can be turned and maneuvered in hand to make some curves. As seen above. It is not made to make clean cuts or turns. But you can use a sander to clean it up some like in the video. The jigsaw starts around $30 and Scroll Saw starts around $150 ish. Both great tools.

looks like you used a jigsaw to cut the animals out. What saw blade did you use? I enjoyed watching this very much.
@MakerDecor
@MakerDecor Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes a jigsaw. The one on this was just a basic blade. But they do sell scroll saw blades for jigsaws. Those blades make it easier to make those rounded curved cuts. Thank you very much!
