The K5 Plus from MakerPi is a fully enclosed 3D Printer with a futuristic design - but how does it print? Watch to find out!
PrusaSlicer profile bundle - makersmuse.podia.com/makerpi-...
NOTE The printer DID actually come with filament, I mistook it for a box from another machine, small roll of white PLA. Apologies.

Great review Angus. I really enjoy that your reviews genuinely come across as being totally unbiased. Many makers on KZfaq are being sponsored directly and I always wonder just how biased their reviews are going to be. Yours come across very genuine and informative. Not just "It's rubbish." You explain why and how to make it better." Thanks

Excellent Review As usual! You briefly mentioned Octoprint, I recently started using Octoprint on two Ender 3s and I love it. I designed a raspberry pi 3 case that clips to the ender 3 rails, as well as a camera mount for web streaming. I especially appreciate the real time gcode view. Would you please consider doing a video on setting up octoprint?

The silent stepper controllers might be more pricey; and since its the x and y motors that are most active during a print they prioritised making those silent over the z to increase their mark up

I initially thought it was a patch by Angus. Looking at the machine construction it looks like a last second decision. I'm also worried about the lack of proper electrical connection of the hot end. Spring contacts for high amperage make me cringe.

I'm still waiting for the prosumer grade 3D printer for small scale additive manufacturing with real industrial stepper drivers instead of the dinky little Polulu drivers, beefier motion control (maybe linear rails instead of linear rods), a K5 or larger print volume, support for 2X, 3X or even 4X tandem print heads for much faster throughput on arrayed small parts, and an enclosed and heated print chamber for ABS parts that don't warp. Kudos for the removable glass print bed. I retrofitted my Qidi Tech printers with magnetically attached glass beds.

Something overlooked is support. How good is the support both from MFR and community? CR10 and Anet A8 while not the greatest themselves are great in support. Bit smaller than this, BIBO manufacturer support has been pretty good but community support is lacking (compared to CR10/A8).

Tip, Issues with printing PLA after using high temp materials.. Load Nylon at the same temps as the prior material printed at, let it purge for about 1-2min Unload the Nylon at your PLA print temp Secondary option Load Polymaker Polylite or PolyMax PLA (there is some other brands you can use but they are hit and miss) at the print temp of your higher print temp material (yes it can handle the 230C+ temps) Purge for about 1-2min and let the hotend cool back down (Important step!) and unload at normal PLA temps.

Always hated those small iteration upgrades within a model run. As an example the CR-10S may or may not have cable strain relief (may have it installed or the part on the SD card), may or may not have large leveling knobs installed. Worse, you really can never tell what you're going to get. I was told mine was the latest latest version, strain relief was installed, small leveling knobs so it was an intermediatly older model.

It's a pain to handle a nozzle/hotend clogging inside an enclosed printer. Each printer independly on pricing will have a clog from time to time, this is normal. In this case I need free room on all sides for my hands. Such a full enclosed printer sucks ;-) ... or make this enclosure removable ...
