Red lipstick was the symbol of the USO and Rosie the Riveter in WWII because Hitler hated red lipstick. I love that women were able to express their patriotism with their red lips. My grandmother wore very little makeup,but she had her red lips. I love your sharing about taking your lipstick to your surgery. Make up is empowering for many of us🙌❤️💋💄

Yes, makeup, especially red lipstick, has always made me feel empowered. I love that the military worked with Elizabeth Arden to create a red lipstick as part of the uniform for women during the second world war. It's always been a symbol of female empowerment for me. It also just makes me feel pretty. 💄

Haha your declutter is my opportunity to expand my wishlist, especially for drugstore shades - they never have samples to try on the colors so I end up passing them by. I love your collection and I have the same relationship with red lipstick. It looks amazing, it makes me feel amazing, period. Thank you for letting your daughter wear what she wants - we women get so much judgment from this world about our bodies, and don't get enough encouragement and support to cultivate our own individuality and autonomy. I also had a thought about all those reds you love so much but that are discontinued - one reason to keep them is to use them as swatches in case you see a new lipstick that may be a match. Photos aren't as reliable, but having the original on hand to check other colors against may be helpful.

Yes, I'm keeping my favorite sheer red in hopes of finding a good alternative. I used to have a favorite sheer red from Lancome two decades ago that got discontinued. The lipstick queen shade was my replacement for that one. Now the YSL has become my go to sheer red. 🤷‍♀️

@@lyra2282 The drugstore ones are good, but the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine are amazing. If you want a similar formula at drugstore price, check out the Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipsticks. Very comfortable, and not too heavy.

BTW I just got the Maybelline crayon in a couple red shades and that ELF lipstick - I'm very impressed with both! Especially the ELF lippie - great color and the formula is fantastic and lasted through a meal better than some of the expensive brand lipsticks I own. I wish they had more reds in that line!

This video is a heaven to any red lipstick lover! I have got 6 red lipsticks and sometimes it gives me hard time to choose between them. I can't imagine having so many... I don't wear red every day (I would love to tho! ) so mine will probably last me few years and I'm aware of product expiration and general market expansion, when new brands and formulas pop up every month...I have got my favourite - Velvet Ribbon - and it will be hard to beat...

Red lipsticks are life! I first fell in love with them as a kid after watching Selena performing in the nineties before she passed. She always wore red and looked so powerful. I will forever love red lipstick.

I've been WAITING for your red lipstick review! :) Feels so validating to find someone else who loved and misses the OG Bite Amuse Bouche formula, and Lipstick Queen. I didn't consider myself a red lipstick person until someone gifted me MAC Ruby Woo and I LOVE how it looks on me. I'm eyeing the Lisa Eldridge reds, especially Velvet Jazz or Velvet Dragon.

I feel like so many people are intimidated by red lipstick. It's just a matter of finding your perfect red. It's different for everyone. Shade, finish and pigment level are everything. Not everyone want a blue red, or a matte red, or a highly pigmented red. Sometimes the perfect red is a sheer, warm, glossy one. I feel like most people think of a shade like Ruby Woo when they think of a red lipstick, and they're are so many different options. I love the highly pigmented, and the sheer ones, the warm and the cool ones, the glossy and the matte ones. I love reds! I miss LQ so much.😭 At one point I had 57 of their lipsticks. I owned all of the Velvet Rope, and Silver Screen lipsticks. All of the Cupid's Bow Matte crayons, at least 20 of the Sinner and Saint lippies. I also had several of their specialty shades: Medieval, Hello Sailor, Aloha, Black Lace Rabbit, Jean Queen, Eden, Frog Prince, Queen Bee, Frost Queen, and two from the All That Jazz lipstick line. I'm sure I'm missing a few, but they're the lipstick brand I miss the most! LQ was the brand that showed me I could wear nude lipstick. Before then, every nude I tried make me look ill and I'd never wear it. I also had a deep and abiding love of Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipsticks. I used to have so many. I miss that formula so much! 😥

Totally agree with you about the Give Beauty lipstick. It started out ok and it;s gotten progressively drier. Mine's in the shade Old School Me. Luckily it was a gift!

I was very surprised I didn't see one single Revlon Super Lustrous red lipstick in your red lipstick pile. There are SO many good ones.. there's Certainly Red (which was used on the show Mad Men) and Fire and Ice, Love That Red, Revlon Red, Cherries in the Snow and Ravishing Red to name a few. I always urge anyone who loves red lipstick to check out Revlon's Super Lustrous line, it's a high-end formula with big color payout and they're unscented (in the 90s they had a horrid scent , which is gone now).There are even more red shades in their matte line, too. ❤️💋💄💄💄💄

Cherries in the Snow always pulls pink on me. Hot pink. I think it might have ended up in my pink video. I don't know a lot about Drugstore makeup. I've had so many fails from the drugstore that I pass on a lot of it. (especially lipsticks) I'm such a lipstick snob that I'm always looking for the perfect lip formula from every brand. (affordable to luxury) Now, you have piqued my curiosity. Maybe it's time to swing my my local drugstore and pick up Certainly Red or Ravishing Red. I know I'm not a Cherries in the Snow kind of gal, but there are other options! Thanks for the recommendations.

Your channel single handedly inspired me to get into red lipstick!!!!!! I have 11 red lipsticks (not including balms and glosses) up from literally 1 in the past year and there are definitely more to come! I love a good warm red so Velvet Dragon and Cabo are my most reached for. I love Kiss Me Coral from Revlon, a bright orangey red. Atomic Cherry is really soft and flattering. Palazzo is just the perfect neutral red for me. Velvet Enchantment lets me wear a blue red without being too bold. I’m still dipping my toe into blue reds for now. I’m really eyeing the Gucci matte and sheer Goldie Red and trying to justify getting one…. Or both. Loved this video! I got to drink my morning coffee while watching! ☕️❤ Edit: my achilles heel is lip products across the board, but I’m going through a blush phase right now!

I'm also in a blush phase, but lipstick will always be my first love. ❤️ I picked up Red Odalie from Gucci during the Sephora sale to replace the warm leaving nude I got. I've got my fingers crossed it's a good red for me. It's a warmer leaning red. 🤞 Thanks so much for watching and sharing your favorite shades of red to wear. I love it!

I'm OBSESSED with the Maybelline Ultimatte lipstick line. i have 3 currently and I want more! they are so easy to use and they last well without drying. my current favourite shade is More Blaze (very MLBB shade for me).

I still have a Lipstick Queen cream blusher, Black Lace Rabbit. Miss them! I'm the same in summer, a poppy or tomato red with that hint of orange seems to suit me best then.

Red lipstick is one of my favourite products! I’ve been trying to wear it more this year as a statement and there’s something about it that’s so powerful. And I 100% agree with you, I don’t want a red lipstick that’s hi maintenance either - defeats the purpose of the effortless classic in my opinion. The Nars matte lip pencils are one of my favourite formulas - super low maintenance. Cruella is my perfect red, but I have some other red lipstick must haves too.

I love living in WA. I live in the southeast part of the state. It's so lovely this time of year. I've always loved how a red perks up my face. It really brings life to my pale face. I usually tap a little on my cheeks for some extra color.

During my teen years im in my early 20s btw lol i was always on the hunt for my perfect red and ive learned that over time after trying loads of different ones that i enjoy duller tones and deeper tones of red and im okay with not having a specific red tone for me

It took me a while to find my preferred shade too. I go through seasons of warmer reds, and cooler reds. Sheer and pigmented. I usually keep to the brighter shades, because if I wear ones that are too dark now that I'm nearing 50, it makes me look even older. 🤷‍♀️

Love your videos as always! Very delighted to see LE collection. I have almost all of her lipsticks and you convinced me to get Velvet Morning. I ve been eyeing Velvet Duchess but already own Myth and Jazz. Do you think Duchess is similar/appears the same as Myth and/or Jazz?

Velvet Duchess is like a mix of Jazz and Ribbon in my mind. I don't feel like it's similar to Myth. Duchess pull more red on me while Myth has more of a cranberry/pomegranate shade to it. A vibrant, but deeper berry tone. (keep in mind that I wear the second lightest shade in Lisa's Foundation. 02) My lips don't have much natural pigment to them. If you have a more pigmented lip, it certainly can change how the shades look on you. Just something to keep in mind. I love Velvet Morning so much, it's one of my favorite hot red shades. I wear it all the time!

Armani Lipsticks are definitely a splurge, but it’s worth it. Very moisturizing & opaque with just one swipe 🙌 Revlon super lustrous formulas is a really nice drugstore option 🤭

My only red is Strawberry Shock but I think Velvet Ribbon will have to join it. I only buy Lisa lipsticks because they suit me so well-they’re expensive but it keeps my collection number down, so it evens out ha.

I love red lipstick it my signature look. I am definitely looking at some you have, like I need another red lol. I loved the Hourglass icon red from years ago was my signature red so sad they discontinued. I had another I loved from Nabla called Rumors. Jordana sweet cream called red velvet. Why are the best reds discontinued! Fenty has beauty reds called MVP, HBIC and uncensored. I just picked up Nars highway to hell thinking about getting star woman. Those of us with large red collection probably don't ever need another one, but it's inevitable. I know I don't need another one, but I'm know I'm going to get another one. : ) I miss the Icon shade from Hourglass. I had it first in the Femme Rouge Velvet Cream formula (when it was int he full sized refillable bullet) It was the formula they discontinued to launch the Confession Slim Lipsticks. (skinny gold applicators that were refillable) I still have the shade My Icon Is from the confession slim formula, but I still miss that larger bullet. I've been eyeing the Fenty reds, but I haven't purchased a single shade from their lipstick line. I keep swatching the formula when I'm at Ulta, and I'm not in love. I'm not going to pay the highend price for an "ok" formula. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the formula merit's the price. I've been eyeing the Nars PowerMatte lipstick in Dragon Girl. It's been forever since I've had that shade and I love it as a punchy red. Thanks for watching today and talking red lipstick with me!

Love this. I actually just decluttered my lipstick today. Mostly Reds but a few other colours. Ones that I keep repurchasing are both MAC (ironically the formula you stated you don't like lol). Relentlessly Red and All Fired Up. I ended up keeping 40 lipsticks and got rid of 27. But I also had a large maybe pile so the 40 may decrease. Now to see if you've done any other declutters, I'm dreading when it's time to do my eyeshadow palettes 😭

I, too, was obsessed with red lipstick as a child. I can be seen wearing it in pictures as young as 5. I HATED my 4th grade teacher because she wouldn’t let me wear it. Haha!

I can't believe your teacher wouldn't let you wear it. It's only lipstick. I didn't wear lipstick until 14 because my mom wouldn't let me. Even then, she thought red was too mature of a color and I couldn't wear it until college. Guess how quickly I amassed a collection of reds once I went into the dorm? I'm still obsessed. Thanks for sharing your story. I love hearing about other people's love of makeup.

You must be the most passionate woman talking about red lipstick in KZfaq😅 I have a challenge with reds, I buy one, I do not wear it often, it goes bad and I buy another shade again. The colour I like is the russian red by Mac but I'm not very fond of the formula and even though it is a cool red I always see my teeth pulling yellower. Shall I ask if you whiten your teeth? I'm thinking of doing it... I'm working online and I would like my teeth to be white without harming. From all those lipsticks I liked the deep from Milani and velvet duchess. Thanks for showing all, this is better than going to the mall and getting overwhelmed😂 have a great weekend

Yes, I whiten my teeth. I use a whitening gel that my dentist sells. I have custom made trays that fit my teeth exactly. I haven't used them in over year, and I'm certainly noticing all my coffee stains. 😬 I think I'm out of whitening gel at the moment. Since I work for a dentist, I make sure my teeth are always in good condition. I do love a red lipstick! I am so passionate about it. I obviously have too many even after the declutter. 🤷‍♀️ At least I'm doing my best to whittle it down to a usable number to lipsticks.

I like red lipsticks per se and on others and sometimes on myself but I rarely wear them, I bought a few and then got rid of every one as time went by. Its just not my thing. However mauve and rosy lipsticks and nude/my lips but better lipsticks - yes pls ! Cant get enough lol. And Im really not into browns, oranges, coral lipsticks. Still I enjoyed your declutter and reviews.

It's good to know what you like. I firmly believe you should only wear what makes you feel pretty or confident. I don't change much with the trends. (graffic liner, bleached brows, matte skin) I stick to what makes me feel attractive. Thanks for watching despite not being a fan of red lipstick. 🤗

I love, love red lipsticks, I probably own just as many as you. What I purchase the most is lipsticks, i own many, my favorite are the blue undertone reds, don’t really like orange reds. You have a beautiful collection💄

Thanks for watching. With a neutral undertone, I can wear both cool and warm learning reds. I used to only wear blue reds until I discovered how much life a warm red brought to my face. Now I love having a collection of both.

You might like one of the lighter shades. It's just this red is hard to keep in my lip line without a liner. It's even hard with a liner. It's higher maintenance than I want. It feels nice on the lips formula wise. 🤷‍♀️ Just not my favorite red. Allie Glines just reviewed and swatched all the new shades. She likes it. You might too.

I love the shade 999, but don't love the forever matte transfer proof formula I have. I wore it again after recording this video, and it looked good for about 2 hours before it started to bunch up on itself and create a bald spot on the center where my lips touch. 😥 Maybe it's time to try a different Dior formula. 🤷‍♀️

LOVING these color themed lipstick videos. My favorite! Wondering if that Covergirl lipstick, The Real Thing, smells like dirt? I have a lovely brown one, but it literally tastes like I'm eating dirt. Did I get a dud? Lol!

I never noticed that the Covergirl lipstick smelled weird. I'm running to check right now. I just ran to my bedroom to check the Covergirl lipstick. Mine smelled mostly like lipstick ingredients and had a faint floral smell. I'm not a lip licker, so I rarely know what my lip products taste like. I can't speak to if it tastes bad or not. I do own the Agent Carter red from Besame (Red Velvet 1946) but it's so special that I rarely use it haha.

I frequently thought about getting the "Agent Carter" shade when it came out. I'm glad they still sell the same shade. (Red Velvet) It just doesn't come in the cool Agent Carter packaging.

@@thelipstickgal I just tested a couple of Hourglass lipsticks that look like they'd be similar to that shade but I didn't love them (the tiny overpriced one and the Unlocked one - the Unlocked is lovely and creamy but bled into my lines and did unpleasant things in the corners of my mouth). I think the Agent Carter shade is most similar to the Red 0 shade from Hourglass. I ordered Red Velvet and Red Hot Red and I can't wait to get them. In the meantime I broke down yesterday and got 2 more Givenchy Matte Satins that are absolutely gorgeous. I think one of them might be similar to LE's Ribbon. Ribbon and Strawberry Shock are next on my list.

@@lyra2282 I was revisiting these reds yesterday. I was swapping between the Hourglass Caution in "My Icon Is", and the Dior Matte Transfer Proof 999 yesterday. I love the formula of the Hourglass tiny lipsticks, but they're so expensive for the amount you get. I'm pretty sure I don't like the Dior Matte Transfer Proof formula. I have one of the Hourglass Unlocked lipsticks in a rose nude shade, but it has a pH adjusting element to it, and stains my lips a bright pink. Then the original color can't cover up the bright pink. I'm not going to be picking up any more of the Unlocked shades. Especially for the $38 price. I've been thinking about picking up a few more Besame lipsticks. Red Velvet or Fairest Red. They're lovely, and I enjoy the formula a lot.

@@thelipstickgal You know, what you said about the Unlocked lipstick explains a lot - the shade I had was a deeper red but as it wore off it stained my lips a pink color. The color didn't look bad and I just assumed that was the base pigment, but I wonder if it's that ph thing too. I returned it. I'm eyeing the Besame lippies again too, and they have a new dual ended brush where one end is a lip brush and another is an eye liner, would be great for travel!

Hi :) I guess you have red lipstick for a lifetime (maybe 2 lifetimes) LOL I nonetheless noticed that you do not have a Sisley Phyto lipstick :) These are the ones that the more I use the better and more hydrated my lips feel ;) I would venture to say you might like it :) Le Phyto-Rouge #43 Rouge Capri? or LE PHYTO-ROUGE EDITION LIMITÉE #44 Rouge Hollywood?. Both of them seem to be the right color for you :) And in case you do need a semi sheer , hydrating but with pigment staying power the Twistup Phyto balm in True Red #26 LOL some suggestion!

I'm starting to try more luxury brands. Thanks for the recommendation of shades and formulas. I'll see if I can find a store that has them in stock so I can swatch. If not, it tend to purchase blindly online. 🤷‍♀️ I love a comfortable and hydrating formula so much. I'll check Sisley out. Thanks!

You know, I just realized that Lipstick Queen's Aloha shade looks in the video quite similar in color and formula to Chanel's Rouge Coco in 416 Coco. It's a warm-ish coral-y red, sheer and balmy. It has that Chanel fragrance that I don't love which is why I only own one Chanel lipstick, this one. It looks fantastic. May be worth checking out as a potential dupe.

It seems to be a bit more coral than Aloha, but it's a lovely shade. I don't have any Chanel lipsticks at the moment. Maybe I'll look for one the next time I'm in Sephora. Thanks for recommending it.

@@thelipstickgal i have a lot of favourites.Maybelline rich ruby,daring ruby Mac russian red Estée Lauder bar red Ysl slim rouge paradoxe Lancome drama matte 82&89 Milani matte poppy Givency rouge deep velvet 36 Erre due(a greek company) matte passion Mesauda matte rockabye Armani rouge d armani matte 403(discontinued the whole line) Not a fan of l oreal and dior.Not really matte!!They don't last at all.

I really like the Lancome Matte lipsticks as well as the Milani mattes. I don't think I've found a Givenchy formula that I like yet. I should keep trying, but at the $$$ I'm always a little gun shy. I also really like the Maybelline lipsticks. I haven't ever been a MAC fan, but I know lots of people love the color range and formulas. I haven't tried the YSL slim matte lipsticks, but I'm addicted to The Bold formula, and the shade 01 is my favorite. Thanks so much for sharing your favorites, and making the time to watch today.

🤣 I finally let myself group them. I was thinking of grouping them by shade lightest to darkest. I get visually distracted when the swatches are so different. I love to line things up lightest to darkest. To do that, I would've had to pre-swatch.

Have you ever reflected on why you refer to make-up products using feminine pronouns? Why is a lipstick a "she" and not a "he" or, for that matter, an "it"? What does it mean about us that we call things that we use and manipulate, buy and sell, use up and throw out "she"? Genuinely, this is not a criticism. That said, I did not not think anyone could have more red lipstick than I do. :)

I really haven't thought about the pronouns. That's interesting. 🤔 Your comment made me realize I gender a lot of things. Things I enjoy tend to be "she" and things I don't enjoy or appreciate get gendered as "he." (Or large, clunky things) 🤷‍♀️ Now I'm thinking about what that says about my perception of men and women. Interesting. I have so much red lipstick it's crazy. This is the most I've ever had at one time. It was good to cut it down to a smaller collection. Thanks for watching.

Hi mercystreet45 ! I find your comment very interesting. I'm from France, and there, each object has a pronoun. A lipstick is a "he", a bronzer is a "he", a powder is a "she", a desk is a "he", a table is a "she", etc. It must be so confusing for people learning French as a foreign language !

@@carinekubelec9531 I speak Spanish, so I understand the masculine and feminine pronouns. I know that many people really struggle learning a new language. In English, there are no gendered pronouns for inanimate objects.

@@thelipstickgal I am impressed that you actually took a moment to think about my comment about pronouns--thanks. As a (I must sheepishly? admit) longtime viewer of KZfaq make-up videos, I have the impression that people (mostly women) have been referring to their makeup products with feminine pronouns much more frequency in the past few years. It strikes me as significant--especially in the context of our heightened sensibility to the words we use gender people. Anyway, I hope your daughter has been able to enjoy the lipsticks you passed along to her. If I had a 15-year-old daughter, I would totally let her rock a red lip. :)
