It's very rewarding cutting threads . You are never going to be rid of backlash. Can you not incorporate a split nut in your design to compensate for wear. I think your end mill issue is maybe coming more from play in your slideways and gib adjustment . If you are climb milling ,backlash is an issue but if you are conventional milling you should have no issues. I see the ways look to be milled as opposed to ground and then scraped. It would be interesting to blue them up and see what they show. But we have to remember your machine is a chinese combo machine and not a deckel. Pretty impressive what you do with it. You are proceeding and learning at a very fast rate. Hardest part of this job is the grinding of the trapezoidal tool. You never explained that. My first acme thread was a proud moment for me until I realized I needed it left hand and I cut a beautiful ,useless right hand nut.🤣

Thank you, Eugene. I was going back and forth between the grinder and machine too many times to film. The thread is of a non-standard profile (not 60 degrees). My issue with the backlash becomes prevalent when I am cutting on the Y-axis. The cut is conventional in Y and climb in X and then it grabs and breaks my end mills. The table locks on the X-axis are not strong enough and the lead screw becomes an important factor.

I had to custom grind a cutter to get the thread geometry right. These threads are not standard.

Nice Nico.

Or add a balls crew. I have a CAD model and did a 3D print a nut sleave to test everything.
