yo yo yo, I’m not a camera woman by any means (and that camera is damn heavy and my arms are not very strong) but Matt asked me to help him out and it was a massively healthy change for him to have someone else filming with him, as an alternative to him filming on his own all day with a tripod. Why so serious y’all! matt works extremely hard at what he does and everyone needs a little break sometimes. I TRIED MY BEST PLZ STOP THE HATE

Rosie s...Nope. Don't worry. Enjoyed the video, and if you like, you could always claim you have been influenced by the Paul Greengrass "ShakeyCam" look! Fun video, and makes a change from the usual one person locked-on-a-tripod stuff. Obviously you both enjoyed making this, and that comes across nicely!

You did great. It’s nice to see laughter. The amount of time it must take him to do a single 30 min high production value video is probably on par with a week at a part time job. Plus these dorks are just mad you get to play with Jon Snows hair, and not them.

Hi Matt, nice to meet Rosie, you certainly seemed to have a giggle. One question, I'm thinking about getting a Lie Nielsen Jointer Plane and wondered about yours? Would you recommend a No7 or their No7 1/2 low angle plane? I'm looking for greatest flexibility. Ta. Regards, Steve

Honestly, I'm disappointed in the comments disparaging Rosie. I wasn't bothered by the camera work at all. It's nice to see two people laughing and having a good time. Don't mind the haters and do what makes you happy. As for the content, I'm hoping to build a guitar in the next year and this was extremely helpful. I'm really enjoying this series. Thanks!

Why so much hate on Rosie? I say more videos with Rosie. As always it was an informative video with great content

I think this "Rosie video format" is different but (in my opinion) better. The usual is not bad , dont get me wrong, but with Rosie i feel like we can see Matt in his natural environment and i liked that! I really love your videos, and not just for the way you film it, the content is more important(and also one of the best in the youtube woodworking category), at least for me. Keep it up mate, i learnt so much from you! Thanks :) P.S.: Dont listen to the ugly haters :) #MoreRosie

As someone who makes videos for a living - though it's a little living, I will admit - I don't think there was anything wrong with the camera work, I've seen paid professionals do a much worse job. Plus, it'll do you good to be able to shoot the videos with people around, soon enough your channel will demand more people working alongside you, if it keeps growing at the rate it is. Ps. I love the channel, and if you ever need to outsource any editing I can put you in touch with some good people down here in Plymouth, UK.

correct me if I am wrong but why so manny rods? I know is a 6s string! But most basses don’t even have one! Just a trust rod! Anyways they do no harm!just adding cost to the project!

All of the 6 string basses I've ever seen had 2 truss rods, carbon fiber reinforcement rods are not a must but they help that's why I've recommended him to use 2 truss rods and 3 carbon fiber rods, they are not too expensive either.

@elmadouf

Hey Matt, I noticed you laminated you ash to the walnut strip with the grain running at 90°, as flat-sawn. Because you cut it in 2 and glued it back up, you could have turned it 90° to have it quarter sawn instead. Much more stable for a neck, and maybe you wouldn't have needed 2 truss rod and 3 carbon rods to stiffen it. As a matter of fact in any case is it a good idea to have so much stiffening in the neck. As a luthier, working on that instrument would imply I need to adjust 2 truss rods, make sure their tension is consistent from one to another so that I don't get a twist... And the 3 carbon rods would probably make it so stiff that it'd be a pain in the ass to tighten the truss rod... Truss rod nuts are usually made of crappy steel and tend to wreck when you apply too much force on them... and it's a nightmare to fix when they get messed up by the player. So overkilling it is really not a good solution in that regard : Use stable, quarter-sawn wood, one truss rod to adjust it and that's plenty enough.

François Madeu: Nearly every 6 string bass I have come across, or bought has had dual Truss Rods. Are you saying that as a 6 string Bass it is not required? hopefully you might see this, I am genuinely interested to know why you say this (or anyone else with real experience in building - who is reading this).

I was just wondering from a mechanical point of view, I was confused at why the truss rods are installed on the same side of the neck as the strings? Surely if they are to balance out the tension of the strings, they should be recessed into the back of the neck to apply equal and opposite tension to the neck in order to keep it from bending?
@kenbuteau2620
@kenbuteau2620 6 жыл бұрын
Aeneas Izichi, I believe that these truss rods will be elongated, put under compression, on the same side of the Neutral Axis, N.A., (a line running down the neck where there is zero axial force, located at the transition from tensile to compressive forces) to counter act the tensile force of the strings. To balance forces you can either resist with a force in the opposite direction on the same side of the N.A. like this (rod compression to counteract the string tension), or you can resist with a force in the same direction on the opposite side, like a tensile truss rod on the back of the neck resisting the tensile forces of the strings. A good analogy is to think of a seesaw, to balance a weight on one side you cab either push up on the side of the weight or you cab push down on the other side. This is also why he has two in this fan tail neck, it will allow the balance and straightening of the neck in the plane of the fretboard. I know this was a long winded answer, with some explanations of some basic engineering/physics concepts, but I wanted to simplify it as much as I could typing on my phone so as many people could understand it, and the concepts, as possible.
@elmadouf
@elmadouf 6 жыл бұрын
After the neck is carved, it is pretty much in the center of the neck, and it probably makes little difference anyway. However, recessing it from the back means having a visible rout that you need to fill. It's easier and more aestheticly pleasing to do it from under the fretboard.

Hi Matt - I was surprised you made such hard work of routing the outside carbon rod slots. Rather than lose you marking out just set up a straight edge on your lovely bench to guide the router. You did a couple of odd things too - you didn't glue your carbons in ( potential rattles late in life ) and you left your masking tape on under the fretboard, minimising the amount of glue in the joint each side?? its good to mask off the rods but better to remove the tape before you fit the fretboard. Also a dab of silicone at the ends keeps the rattles away. - Dave

That was me lol, I've advised him to do so; 2x truss rods is a standard for a 6 string bass, carbon fiber reinforcement rods are not a must but they help.They are not always used in mass-produced guitars/basses but a lot of boutique builders do use them even on 6 string guitars/4 string basses.

Einstein's unknown theory of workworking contains a mathematical proof that the number of clamps owned is inversely proportional to the number of projects completed since new clamps were purchased.
