Have you ever used power mesh for a skirt or swag?

I do sometimes use "stretch mesh" (the vendor I use doesn't sell "power mesh") for skirts, especially when I use colored stretch mesh for insets and want the skirt to match exactly. I do prefer using silk chiffon when possible, especially for lyrical skirts because it moves like a whisper. Regular chiffon and stretch mesh work, but the movement is not even close to the type of movement you get from silk chiffon. I only used polyester chiffon on the costume in this video because it's what I had on hand, and I didn't want to spend money on fabric for a costume I was making only for demonstration purposes.

Hi! I am making an ice skating Christmas dress and I wondered the best way to sew on the skirt if it has to be double layers of chiffon?

I've done that before, and it does require a couple of tricks. Lay your two pieces of chiffon one on top of the other, making sure the grain is going in the same direction on both pieces, the lay your pattern on top and cut. Pin the waist together before picking up the cut pieces and baste or serge them together at the waist. Then you can proceed as usual to attach the skirt. I usually serge my hem and just take off 1/4" from each skirt so the layers match up at the hemline.

Also, as I mentioned in the video, make sure that you cut the waist of your skirt at least as wide as the hip measurement if it is going all the way around the body.

Thank you for the video, it is so helpful. Quick question- for the swag, since you are cutting on a fold, would you make the pattern only 1/4 of the hip measurement (plus additional for drape) or did I miss something?
