Making a different style of Leather Shoulder Holster

I have long since lost track of how many different shoulder holster I have made. Here is another variation to show you all. This holster is made to fit on a simple style of shoulder straps that I have heard referred to as a "Spider Rig". This particular piece of Gun Leather was made to fit a .357 revolver.

Very informative, really tip toeing around the idea of a shoulder rig for my 686 3" . Ever done one with the gun grip down, years back they made some like that looks like it might conceal the gun a bit more.

I have made horizontal shoulder holsters. You need to put a thumb break retaining strap on them to keep the firearm from falling out. The hammer on a revolver gives a little bit of leeway so you don't need to get a perfect fit on the strap. Make sure that the strap will not get stuck between your hand and the gun when you draw Makes it tougher to make them for semi autos. Once made one for a vp9 that took three tries to get it to fit right. Not sure they are more concealable, but probably easier to draw from.

I have enjoyed a number of your videos, but this one has me guessing. I know you said it was similar to a "Spider Rig" but I am a rookie at this and have no clue about a spider rig. Do you have a video on how to make the entire thing? I want to make a shoulder holster and this one seems to be the best choice for me. Thanks and keep up the good work.

I have not yet made a video of the spider rig shoulder holster straps. They are very simple. I cut two straps 24" long and two more 16" long. Rivet one end of each strap to a piece of leather that will be between your shoulder blades when you are done. The longer straps go over the shoulders and the short ones under the arm. Punch a bunch of holes in the straps to adjust them. Just put the strap through the ring on the holster double it back and attach it to itself with a screw post.

I have one more question that I forgot this afternoon. On that "Y" shaped piece. Does it have distinct measurements or is it a make it to suit yourself type thing? I ask because I am a bit rotund, okay, I'm fat,and my pistols don't fit down in my belt without the grip printing if I have to bend over, even slightly.

That part can be changed depending on where you want the holster to ride. Changing the bottom of the Y will effect how far above the belt it will be. Changes to the angles and positions of the top of the Y will effect whether it rests under the arm or more towards your front. I would suggest making pattern pieces with heavy paper or poster paper and taping them together so you can try it on before cutting any leather.

Sheep skin scraps. Bought a bag of remnants and I cut pieces about 2-3" square and trim the wool a little with scissors. I can use the same piece many times as long as I use it with the same color of dye. Also use a piece of it to apply my finishes.
