Holly crap, I want one now. That is awesome, I mean that is really awesome. Does the O-ring just screw into the existing threads? Where can I go to place my order? I'm catching up on comments so please excuse the late response. First thanks for watching and for the great comment. Second, I don't have a website or plan on getting one anytime soon. Very interesting and nice work! I've made a couple of Kirsten bowls but never a Falcon. What is the white powder you applied to the bowl and then heated? Shellac?

I've also done a Kirsten bowl just recently. The powder is carnauba wax. It's very useful on rusticated bowls. Thanks for watching.

Nice bowl, striking. That's the first time I have seen the O-ring thing for a Falcon. Did you have to adapt the seat somehow? Or is that a standard model that I have simply not heard of?
@DropbearWoodworks5 жыл бұрын
PipeCat nothing special mate. The o-ring simply gets screwed into the existing thread thus creating the seal needed.
@PipeCat19655 жыл бұрын
Ah. Clevah.
@davidhaines49276 жыл бұрын
Maybe this has been covered and I didn't see it but I'll ask anyway. How does the bowl stay secured and air tight?
@DropbearWoodworks6 жыл бұрын
The o-ring that settles in the threads also serves to create a seal making the bowl seal air tight. Thanks for watching.
@midifighter8 жыл бұрын
Great work Glen, wow! What is the white powder?
@DropbearWoodworks8 жыл бұрын
+Liebe Pfeifen G'day Tanya! The white powder was carnauba wax. I appreciate you watching and for the kind comments. Be well.
@brionbee Жыл бұрын
Looks incredible. How did you get around the need for attaching by threading the bowl onto the stem?
@DropbearWoodworks Жыл бұрын
I use an o-ring instead of threads. It’s beyond my ability or machinery to do a 4-start thread like falcon does. The o-ring fits snuggly into the threads on the “spoon”.

@Sungodv5 ай бұрын
why have the rubber O-Ring?
@DropbearWoodworks5 ай бұрын
The o-ring is used to replace the factory threads which I do not have the tooling to cut and to create a seal. Factory made falcon bowls still have a flat rubber seal.
@Sungodv5 ай бұрын
@@DropbearWoodworks I see. Beautiful bowl, regarless. I have my late brother's bent stem (unlike any I have seen) Falcon Hunter and the bowl doesn't have a seal on it. Wonder what happened to it. It's a made in England one with the code FD8.

Hi pal, be Super if you could add Measurements, to your great Vids please, Thank you.
@DropbearWoodworks Жыл бұрын
Measurements? Lol…I wish I knew. Seriously I think I may have used some vernier callipers the first couple I made and then after that it was all by eye. The only advice I can give you is the “foot” is the same dimension as an original falcon bowl but the slot for the o-ring I made using a 1/8” parting tool. The o-ring size is 21mm ID x 1.7mm. The centre hole is 3/8”. The chamber bit is a ground to shape 3/4” spade bit. If you need more help contact me through Instagram @dropbear_woodworks and I can talk you through anything you need to know. Cheers Stu. Glen.

@@DropbearWoodworks Fantastic help Glen, Many thanks, I have Lathe skills and various select Timbers, I now have enough info to go ahead and turn some bowls, Many thanks my friend,,will show my work later,,Cheers.
@DropbearWoodworks Жыл бұрын
@@STUNCAZ1 you are very welcome. One more piece of advice though. Not all wood is suitable or safe for burning tobacco in. If you don’t have briar, stick to fruit wood or better yet, olive wood. Olive wood is wonderful to turn and behaves just like briar does. Plus is smells like pizza when you turn it. Have fun and all the best. I’d love to see your results.
@STUNCAZ1 Жыл бұрын
@@DropbearWoodworks Hi Glen, Thanks for the great advice, but I was led to believe English hardwoods were fine for Pipe Bowls,? Not an issue as I have Pear, Cherry, Apple and some very expensive Bethlehem Olive, lol. Sorry to be a pest, but I noticed on your Vids, you don't Thread the bottom of the bowls, how does that work out?, Cheers pal, you are a "Goldmine" of useful information,,Thank you.
@DropbearWoodworks Жыл бұрын
@@STUNCAZ1 those woods are perfect. Fruit woods do smoke a little hotter so keep that in mind. As for the thread, you are correct. 4 start coarse thread are a little beyond my ability. I use an o-ring instead that utilise the threads on the falcon stem. The o-rings I use are 21mmID x 1.7mm. Just make a slot in the foot to accommodate a recess that will house half the o-ring so that you can still screw on the bowl. You want a tight fit so as to create a seal. Original falcon bowls have a flat rubber washer to create that seal. Something else to note…make sure the o-rings you use are a silicon material. You still need to keep it as food safe as you can. If you have trouble sourcing o-rings, email me your address and I’ll send you some.
