Making a firewood and steel coffee table

I thought about this project for a long time and now I have finally found some time to try it out. I hope you like it! :D
I started by randomly picking pieces of firewood and planing them on a planer. The wood species is beech (Fagus sylvatica). I planed sides which seemed like they required least amount of work. Each piece was then cut lengthwise on a circular saw until I got rough blocks. I placed them in front of a fan to speed up the drying process. After couple of days on blowing warm air the moisture level dropped down to about 13% an I decided it was enough to continue work. Each block is squared and then glued together. I used d3 acetate glue with open time of around 15 minutes. I left the tabletop to sit for another couple of days before planing and further work.
For steel base, I used some leftover 40x40x4mm pipes from my previous pipe clamps video. I cut them to measure with big angle grinder at 45 degrees angle. I also cut an 8mm thick, 22x22cm steel plate which will hold the legs together. Legs are then positioned as shown in the video and welded onto the steel plate. four holes are drilled for the screws which will hold the tabletop to the base.
After few days of rest, It was time to finish the tabletop. I planed it on the big planer an cut of excess wood on each side with a skillsaw. Surfaces were sanded first with a belt sander, then with orbital sander and finally by hand. Sharp edges were rounded and sanded. On the underside, I milled a recess into which the base will be inserted. Wood is then oiled and base and tabletop re joint together.
Thank you for watching and don't forget to like and subscribe! :D

As always your videos never fail to inspire. I love the "random" look of the steel legs. A taller dining table height version of this design would solve the " knee knocking " issue of the traditional 90 degree leg arrangement. Maybe a 3 leg version to stop the "wobble"? Imagine how 30 of these tables would look as you walk into a restaurant. This video is just what the doctor ordered for corona lockdown viewing. Bravo!

Fantastic work as always and a great job procuring and milling your own materials. One of the most rewarding things for me is to me something out of firewood as before that, it was destined to be burned, showing its true potential with a little extra work is well worth the effort!
