If no one has told you yet.. don't secure the ends in because most of us diamond painters will change out ends. That is an awesome pen! It will be good for people that have arthritis because of the girth of the pen.

As a diamond painter I would not glue the tips in. I like to change the multi-placer between a 3 and 6, or even a straitener. But I love the pen. I would love to have one like it.

I found adding a small piece of kitchen role over the drive centre 60 deg. Helped reduced slipping and prevented the hole being widened

That was so fun to watch! Beautiful end product. And, never again will I roll my eyes over the prices of similar drill pens on Etsy!

Thanks brother! Racked my brain trying to come up with a really good yet simple way to mount it on the lathe, but I couldn't come up with anything better than between centers like that. I'd love to see some type of mandrel system for it

Hey zac! You could try using the shank of the drill bit as a mandrel in your jacobs chuck so you dont have to do the 60° drill 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

I've been wondering...a lot of makers talk about "thin CA glue". Can you buy it pre-thinned, or do you have to thin it yourself? If so, what solvent/thinner should you use?
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Marc, they come in different viscosities. I use one called "Super Fast Thin" from Starbond if I want it to really soak into the material, and I like the "Thin Flex' by Mercury for finishes on pens. I even use medium and thick for certain application too. Typically, the thicker it is the longer you have before it sets up too

Zac, great video as always. How did you hold the sanding pad in you headstock? Jacobs chuck with a drawbar? Never seen that before, but a great idea for sanding small turnings. Thanks for sharing your videos! Always learn something new,
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe! I held that sanding pad with a chuck on a taper, didn't use a drawbar. Works fine for light use, but a drawbar would ensure it doesn't slip or come out. It works really well, great for cleaning up little areas like that quick. I think I learned that trick from Yak Branson. You could also use a collet chuck to hold the sanding pad

I've been diamond painting for a few years and love getting dp pens. You have a few blanks I love but i don't know anyone to turn them. Do you turn dp pens when someone buys your blanks?

Hi Zac would it be possible to twist a pen blank before it is totally set so as to make a spiral inside a clear blank ???? Plus can knitting wool be cast ???
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 5 жыл бұрын
It might be possible, but probably a bit tough to do without screwing up the blank. Let me know how it works for you if you try it. You can definitely cast yarn =D

It's pretty cool! I've just recently been introduced to it, I linked to a video that shows what it is and how it's done in the cards in the video. I'm glad I piqued your interest, I was hoping that this project might introduce some folks to it, I was surprised I had never heard of it before too. The finished "paintings" are pretty awesome!
@uncle_thulhu
@uncle_thulhu 5 жыл бұрын
It's basically paint-by-numbers, but using tiny, uniform bits of plastic, stuck to a pre-printed canvas that has an adhesive coating, so it ends up kinda 8-bit, but textured.

Yikes. I’m sure you know by now but don’t glue the tips. Diamond painters use multiple tops and change out our tips based on how many drills we want to pick up. Most everyone I know would never buy a pen with fixed tips.
